Durango Death Cafe
4:00pm / Durango Public Library
A Death Cafe is a time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee, and discuss death openly and honestly. The aim is to increase awareness about death in order to help people make the most of their (finite) lives. There is never an intention of leading participants to any conclusion, product or course of action. A Death Café is not a bereavement support or grief counseling setting, nor is it a place to give people information about death and dying. It is not for people who, for whatever reason, are unwilling to discuss the subject of death comfortably and openly. Interesting conversations are guaranteed! These events are facilitated by Lola Montano, a registered nurse who is pursuing her hospice certification and is interested in becoming a death doula.    Join us every fourth Monday of the month from 4-5:30 pm.
Durango Death Cafe
4:00pm / Durango Public Library
At a Death Café people our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.   A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death; it is not a grief support group. The Death Café offers an accessible, respectful and confidential space where strangers gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Death Cafés are open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems. The model was developed by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid, based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz. To find out more visit: deathcafe.com. Your facilitator, Lola Montano, has been hosting the Bayfield Death Café since October 2021. Lola is a hospice nurse at Mercy Hospice House, and a trained death doula. Lola volunteers for hospice and the NODA (No One Dies Alone) program at the hospital. She is passionate about demystifying death, in order to help people prepare for the end.
