Departing from the Durango Depot, this excursion takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with incredible views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River while relaxing in heated coaches. Cascade Canyon is a destination like no other and is the perfect setting for a fire-side lunch, photo opportunities or a walk along the Animas River during your 60-minute layover. Test your puzzle-solving skills as you work to beat the clock in our Shakespeare themed Escape Room at the library! This event is free and open to teens and adults. Snowdown Flying Paper (Airplanes)

Let fly the wings of paper and page! Hosted by Durango Office Depot. A simple challenge? Make, decorate with markers, and fly your own plane paper airplane the farthest. See how far you can throw your plane within our course boundaries. All materials will be supplied by OFFICE DEPOT.    (Note: No outside materials such as premade or folded paper planes, tape, paper clips, weights, glue, attachments, plane launchers, etc are NOT permitted.) Each contestant will make/decorate/ throw their own plane.    There will be two age groups (Group-A: grades 1-6 & Group-B: grades 7-12) and both age groups will compete at the same time. 1st place prizes per group will be awarded in each age group plus prizes for contestants.    An Adult must accompany all contestants and a parent signed permission form is required for all participants. Gather Dinner Event

The Gather Dinner event takes place every Tuesday evening 5:30pm-7:30pm Mid-October to the end of March. You are wowed with a four course, prefixed meal using as many local/regional ingredients as possible. During this culinary experience, you will be joined by two invited guests that have produced one or more of the ingredients on your plate that are going to share their journey in producing the ingredients we are privileged to serve that evening. This is a time to connect and honor our farmers, ranchers, producers, bakers and purveyors that go beyond what most of us can conceive in order to accomplish what they do. This memorable evening has limited seating. Prepaid Reservations only. Reservations are closed two days prior to event date for preparation time.

First annual Bard Off! Come and be a "Bard" D Wrangler! Contestants will have one minute to perform a unique acapella song, dance, poem, musical composition or any combination of the above. Snowdown Durango Redball Express

Hosted by Rotary Clubs of La Plata County and Alpine Bank. "For the Red Ball reigns in the winters pale." RedBall Express is a local fundraising event organized by the Rotary Clubs of La Plata County. All proceeds from the event support Rotary projects in La Plata County and local programs for people in need or at risk.    Adoption tickets are available ONLINE ONLY at durangoredball.com. A $5 donation allows the participant to adopt two of the red balls. The first two balls down the course win that adoption ticket holder $5,000. The second pair wins that adoption ticket holder $2,000, and the third pair wins that adoption ticket holder $1,000. Since the arrival of the Rotary Redball Express in La Plata County, the Rotary Clubs of Durango and Bayfield have raised over $500,000 for county wide service projects and donated funds to many local non-profits. Be the lucky winner of this year's grand prizes! Snowdown Shakespearan Smokin Chili Cook-Off

“Is this a tasting spoon which I see before me, The handle toward my hand?” All fools and jesters alike must feedeth thy body. Thus, I say, “Let them eat CHILI!” Sample various red and green chili, salsas and vegetarian chili made by the greatest chili masters of this land. Love to play in the snow? Want to learn more about winter in the San Juans? Join SJMA and Mountain Studies Institute for our special winter hike series, Snow Science & Social! Back by popular demand, these snowshoe hikes are a great opportunity to explore the snowy landscape and learn more about winter in the San Juans.   On select weekends this winter, our education team will host snowshoe interpretive hikes from 1-3 pm, then welcome you back to our new mobile basecamp in the Andrews Lake Winter Parking Lot for a bonfire, hot drinks, and good conversation. Topics will include forest ecology, watersheds, climate change, and the future of snowpack in the San Juans.    These popular events are FREE to the public, but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Snowdown Cat-A-Pult

Hosted by Olde Tymers Café. For 'tis the sport to have the engineer, hoist with his own petard. The Durango Cat-A-Pult IS BACK in conjunction with the Renaissance Fair! Bring your built-at-home trebuchet to the field of competition. Sling/Launching a Kitty projectile (approx. 8oz provided by the SnowDown Cat-A-Pult event coordinator) a distance of 200 feet three times to a "Kitty Box" target.   Scoring: points given for accuracy. TEAMS MUST BUILD trebuchets PRIOR to competition. Rules: Trebuchets are powered by 75-pound counterweight or less and must be attached, not looped over, the end of the arm. No energy can be stored in deformation of components. No springs, rubber bands, flexible arms, twisted ropes or pulleys can be used. No motorized equipment. Downtown Balloon Glow

Come to the Downtown Durango Balloon Glow (weather permitting).   Hot air balloons will light up the sky in Downtown Durango at the balloon glow in the 500 block of Main in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot.   Arrive around 6 pm to see the balloons inflate. The glow starts at approximately 6:30 pm, weather permitting. Visitors will be able to be up close to see the balloon pilots in action. Kids will love seeing all the colorful balloons! The balloons will come down around 7:30 pm, weather permitting. Schedule subject to change.   Make sure you bring your camera for the glowing balloons. There will also be "candlesticks" which are the balloon basket and burners, without the balloon. Come to the Downtown Durango Balloon Glow (weather permitting).   Hot air balloons will light up the sky in Downtown Durango at the balloon glow in the 500 block of Main in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot.   Arrive around 6 pm to see the balloons inflate. The glow starts at approximately 6:30 pm, weather permitting. Visitors will be able to be up close to see the balloon pilots in action. Kids will love seeing all the colorful balloons! The balloons will come down around 7:30 pm, weather permitting. Schedule subject to change.   Make sure you bring your camera for the glowing balloons.
