What light through yonder window breaks? Tis the SNOWDOWN Follies - returning for the 40th year of entertainment with your favorite bards, showbiz personalities and local commentary. This notoriously irreverent event has a cash bar and performs both weekends of SNOWDOWN to allow as many people as possible to experience the fun and laughter the SNOWDOWN Follies provides!

Snowdown Shakespeare Escape Room

To slightly misquote the bard, "We bid you to escape and strive with things impossible." Test your puzzle-solving skills as you work to beat the clock in our Shakespeare themed Escape Room at the library! This event is free and open to teens and adults. Space is limited, registration required; sign up on our website www.durangogov.org/library. Must be 12+.  Entry Cost: FREE  Prizes! 
Snowdown Flying Paper (Airplanes)
2:00pm / Office Depot
Let fly the wings of paper and page! Hosted by Durango Office Depot. A simple challenge? Make, decorate with markers, and fly your own plane paper airplane the farthest. See how far you can throw your plane within our course boundaries. All materials will be supplied by OFFICE DEPOT.    (Note: No outside materials such as premade or folded paper planes, tape, paper clips, weights, glue, attachments, plane launchers, etc are NOT permitted.) Each contestant will make/decorate/ throw their own plane.    There will be two age groups (Group-A: grades 1-6 & Group-B: grades 7-12) and both age groups will compete at the same time. 1st place prizes per group will be awarded in each age group plus prizes for contestants.    An Adult must accompany all contestants and a parent signed permission form is required for all participants. Grades 1-12.   Entry Cost: FREE  Prizes!

Snowdown Opening Ceremony
1:00pm / Purgatory Resort - the beach
Hosted by Purgatory Resort. Start your SNOWDOWN celebration with a pre-party opening ceremony! There will be a Ski Parade down the "Hill" to pass the SNOWDOWN torch from 2022 to now. Come ski in costume and you can join the parade! Meet at the 6 pack lift at 1 PM for the ride up and ski down to follow the torch. The torch will light the opining flame and the 2024 THEME WINNER will be announced! All ages welcome!

Snowdown DIY Elizabethan Ruff Craft

Every Shakespearean costume needs the signature ruffled collar. Come craft thine own version made from upcycled old books! Or make a decorative “ruff ” for your dog, or cat (or newt..) with our pet version of the craft. All supplies are included.   Entry Cost: FREE
Snowdown FUN-Official Kick-Off Business After Hours

Join us for this special Business After Hours, which is a networking event co-hosted by the Durango Chamber and a Chamber member, attracting professionals from all around the Durango area. Join us for an evening of connections, celebrations, and fun!    "Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them." - Twelfth Night.   This special event is to be the FUN-official Kick-off to Snowdown with costumes, prizes, and fun! Don your favorite Shakesperean costume and join us for an event you don't want to miss. Snowdown Knight Fight Night

"Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great. And others have greatness thrust upon them." Cometh show off thy musical prowess at the Tavern! Performers wilt be given points based on vocalization, performance and showmanship. If you win 1st place, you are ineligible to participate in the contest any of the other nights. The karaoke contest wilt be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday. T'will be nights most memorable! "Be not afraid of greatness!" Gazeth thine eyes skyward as the greatest of hot air balloons riseth into the heavens. Mass upgoingeth of hot air balloons floateth gently down the Animas Valley. Viewing can be done from Lone Pine Dr and North Animas Valley neighborhoods.  Entry Cost: Balloon Pilots by invitation only
Snowdown The Bards Bloody Mary Contest
12:00pm / La Plata County Fairgrounds
“O thou invisible spirit of bloody Mary! If thou hast no name to be known by, let us call thee devilishly good.” Ice, cups, and Vodka will be provided. Bring the rest of your best Bloody Mary ingredients to fabricate your best drink. Snowdown Shakespearan Smokin Chili Cook-Off
12:00pm / La Plata County Fairgrounds
“Is this a tasting spoon which I see before me, The handle toward my hand?” All fools and jesters alike must feedeth thy body. Thus, I say, “Let them eat CHILI!” Sample various red and green chili, salsas and vegetarian chili made by the greatest chili masters of this land. Doors open at 7 AM to decorate booths and cooks! and to start cooking. Judging begins at 10:30 AM. Tasting cups on sale at 12 NOON. Knights, Kings and peasants alike can vote for the people’s choice award.
