Mondays will become your favorite day of the week (Yes, you did read that right)!   Learn about the historical evolution of pottery and understand the various methods to create shapes and forms. Walk with your pieces through every step of creation. Together, we will focus on two modes of creating functional ware through hand-building and an introduction to wheel throwing, to create functional art for everyday use. We will spend time exploring textures, shapes, and colors.

Salsa Dance Lessons

Drum Roll... Salsa Classes are back!   Four-week sessions starting on the first Tuesday of each month. We offer Level 1 Brand New, Level 2 Beginner, and Level 3 Intermediate Salsa sessions. Taking all four classes in any given session is the best way to learn, but we do accept single-class drop-ins. Public social dance hour after class!   Tuesday nights. Level 1 - 7:00pm. Level 2 - 7:00pm. Level 3 - 6:00pm. Classes last approximately one hour. From ~ 8pm-9pm we have a public social dance!   Pricing: Entire four-week session - $50/individual - $40/each for couples. Single class drop-in - $15. Payment taken at the door.   Level Descriptions:   Level 1 is for brand-new Salsa dancers. You will learn fundamentals - Salsa musicality, proper frame and connection, the basic step, open and closed partner dance positions, basic left turns, and more. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style).   Level 2 is for beginner Salsa dancers with a bit of experience or ones moving up from L1. You will learn more fundamentals plus a little extra! We will continue with musicality exercises, timing, smoothing out the basic step and moves, and will move into cross-body leads, progressive left turns, basic right turns, and simple combos. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style).   Level 3 is for intermediate Salsa dancers with a solid grasp of musicality, footwork, cross-body leads, and combination moves. We will work on more complex combos, progressive right turns, slants, stops, copas, and more. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style) - but may occasionally throw in some Salsa on 1 (LA style).
Tuesday Nights Figure Drawing

Figure drawing is the practice of drawing a live model in different poses. It trains your eye to see things that photographs just can't capture.   This makes you more perceptive in all of your work—   The biggest reason to practice with the human figure is because it has so much to offer. Mastering the figure is about more than just shapes and muscles and bones.

We will mix creativity with pleasure as we unwind from a busy week, enjoy happy hour drinks, spend time with community artists, and most importantly hand-build a Rice Bowl to use for years to come. By the end of the evening your piece will be ready for glazing. You select a glaze which will be applied to your ceramic piece when fired. High Dynamic Range Photography

The high contrast of normal sunny daylight scenes is often hard to capture with a single shot. High dynamic range photography circumvents these limitations by combining multiple exposure values in a single image. This one-day workshop is a combination of hands-on shooting and classroom instruction that explores advanced techniques in tone mapping using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to create the HDR image.

Rivers for Resilience

You are invited to join us for Rivers for Resilience—a fun stewardship, education, and community action event to protect and preserve the Animas River.   The activities will start at 9:00 am at the Santa Rita Park Pavilion with a morning river clean up with Broads staff and partners. This will be followed at noon by a brown-bag lunch—provided by Broads—and a lunch talk from the San Juan Citizens Alliance Riverkeeper on the importance and value of intact, protected watersheds, especially in a time of climate change.   Then, from 5:30-9:00 pm at Fort Lewis College, there will be a film screening of The Colorado Problem: The River in the Red, which explores the relationship between climate change and the fate of the Colorado River Basin. The film will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion with local conservation experts who will share how the Durango community can get involved as climate activists.   Rivers for Resilience is free and open to all ages, ability levels, and understanding of climate change and watersheds! REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
Studio and Location Lighting for Photographers

To expand your creative options, move beyond the limitations of available light and explore the world of studio strobes. In this class, we will demonstrate both dedicated camera speedlights, and independent strobes from Godox and Flashpoint. The new wireless systems eliminate the restrictions of cables and power requirements enabling a flexible approach to flash photography. This four- hour class covers all the basics to get you started into the world of strobe lighting.

Kathy Gibson, the great-granddaughter of photographer Frank Gonner, will share the stories of several other photographers who documented the landscape and the people who lived here. Drum Roll... Salsa Classes are back!   Four-week sessions starting on the first Tuesday of each month. We offer Level 1 Brand New, Level 2 Beginner, and Level 3 Intermediate Salsa sessions. Taking all four classes in any given session is the best way to learn, but we do accept single-class drop-ins. Public social dance hour after class!   Tuesday nights. Level 1 - 7:00pm. Level 2 - 7:00pm. Level 3 - 6:00pm. Classes last approximately one hour. From ~ 8pm-9pm we have a public social dance!   Pricing: Entire four-week session - $50/individual - $40/each for couples. Single class drop-in - $15. Payment taken at the door.   Level Descriptions:   Level 1 is for brand-new Salsa dancers. You will learn fundamentals - Salsa musicality, proper frame and connection, the basic step, open and closed partner dance positions, basic left turns, and more. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style).   Level 2 is for beginner Salsa dancers with a bit of experience or ones moving up from L1. You will learn more fundamentals plus a little extra! We will continue with musicality exercises, timing, smoothing out the basic step and moves, and will move into cross-body leads, progressive left turns, basic right turns, and simple combos. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style).   Level 3 is for intermediate Salsa dancers with a solid grasp of musicality, footwork, cross-body leads, and combination moves. We will work on more complex combos, progressive right turns, slants, stops, copas, and more. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style) - but may occasionally throw in some Salsa on 1 (LA style).

It trains your eye to see things that photographs just can't capture.   This makes you more perceptive in all of your work—   The biggest reason to practice with the human figure is because it has so much to offer. Come get your hands dirty as you create a unique and functional Leaf Bowls! We will mix creativity with pleasure as we unwind from a busy week, enjoy happy hour drinks, spend time with community artists, and most importantly hand-build a Leaf Bowl to use for years to come. By the end of the evening your piece will be ready for glazing. You select a glaze which will be applied to your ceramic piece when fired. Drum Roll... Salsa Classes are back!   Four-week sessions starting on the first Tuesday of each month. We offer Level 1 Brand New, Level 2 Beginner, and Level 3 Intermediate Salsa sessions. Taking all four classes in any given session is the best way to learn, but we do accept single-class drop-ins. Public social dance hour after class!   Tuesday nights. Level 1 - 7:00pm. Level 2 - 7:00pm. Level 3 - 6:00pm. Classes last approximately one hour. From ~ 8pm-9pm we have a public social dance!   Pricing: Entire four-week session - $50/individual - $40/each for couples. Get comfortable with acrylic painting techniques and enjoy the process of completing a painted ornament showing any holiday scene of your choice.
