December 10, 2019 is Colorado's largest one-day giving event. More than 70 local nonprofits are featured on our regional online giving platform, www.swcogives.org. Locals are encouraged to 'give where they live' during this statewide giving opportunity. Philanthropy is just a click away! Support causes you care about and keep your dollars local. Contribute to organizations that serve children, the arts, animals, environment, food security, and more. The Community Foundation serving SW CO is the Regional Champion for Colorado Gives Day!
Looking Glass Art Show

Meet the artists and see their work in oil, pastel and watercolor. All paintings are for sale with 30% of sales going to Durango’s Local First’s efforts to establish a Creative District in Durango. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through January 30, 2020.   The Looking Glass Collective consists of twenty artists who meet monthly to critique one another’s work. The collective also creates opportunities for exhibits such as the yearly show at Smiley, exhibits for non-profits like San Juan Citizens Alliance and shows at local businesses. The artists have all been juried into multiple national shows; many have won awards.   Looking Glass Collective artists participating in this year’s show are: Linda Bonds, Emma French, Sue Giddings, Sandra Heller, Yvonne Holland, Rosemary Juskevich, Rebecca Koeppen, Betsy Krill, Annette LeMaire, Juanita Nelson, Cheryl Roberts, Pat Smiley, Ann Stringfellow, Dinah Swan and Lorraine Trenholm.
Tai Chi Class - Yang Style 24 Form

Tai Chi is good for health, balance, coordination, focus & stress reduction. Classes will include Tai Chi principles, applications, meditation & Qigong. Beginning December 3 and ongoing on Tuesdays & Thursdays at Durango Community Recreation Center. 9-10 am & 4-5 pm. Monthly and drop-in class rates available. Artist Tony Stromberg Exhibition

Tony will be in attendance from 5-7pm to answer questions about his work and inspiration, as well as sign copies of his book, “Horse Medicine.” The show continues daily through the holiday season, closing on December 31.

December Power Hour: Community Donation Drive

Join Power to Act for Power Hour, your purposeful lunch hour. This is a community donation drive collecting:  All-Purpose Cleaner  2 PK Paper Towels    The items gathered will be placed inside our Home Handbags, a market tote filed with household essentials and donated to victims of domestic violence transitioning out of homelessness into secure and permanent housing. These purposeful handbags are donated to our local nonprofit recipient, Housing Solutions for the Southwest, adding value to their mission.
Open Shop Day

The shop is a creative environment where other lapidary and jewelry artists generously share their knowledge, experience, techniques, and ideas. It is advisable to bring your own materials and hand tools if you have them. The Club offers an excellent variety of motorized tools, hand tools, and even some rough stone you may use to hone new skills.    Drop-ins and new members welcome. Experience is not necessary, however it is strongly recommended that new members attend a Shop Orientation that is held at 9:00 on the first Saturday of every month.    Anyone is welcome to join the Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club! Annual Membership fees are $30 per year for individuals and $45 per year for families (covers one or two adults and any children under 18 living in the same household)

Pain Care Yoga

Pain is not always an accurate indication of what is happening in the body. Despite widespread beliefs about pain, we have the capacity to rewire the neurological processes that send danger signals from the peripheral nervous system to the brain, and we can change our pain!   Lynn Wickersham has been teaching yoga for 12 years and holds a Certificate in Pain Care Yoga. She teaches yogic practices for pain management incorporating breath work, meditation, mantra, mudra, and gentle movement. These techniques help people living with persistent pain to move with more ease, experience less pain, and improve quality of life.    Participants are asked to contact Lynn (lynnellen2065@gmail.com) for a brief consultation and to complete an intake form prior to attending Pain Care Yoga classes. No prior yoga is experience required. Chairs, bolsters, and other props will be provided for comfort and safety.
