Looking Glass Art Show

Meet the artists and see their work in oil, pastel and watercolor. All paintings are for sale with 30% of sales going to Durango’s Local First’s efforts to establish a Creative District in Durango. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through January 30, 2020.   The Looking Glass Collective consists of twenty artists who meet monthly to critique one another’s work. The collective also creates opportunities for exhibits such as the yearly show at Smiley, exhibits for non-profits like San Juan Citizens Alliance and shows at local businesses. The artists have all been juried into multiple national shows; many have won awards.   Looking Glass Collective artists participating in this year’s show are: Linda Bonds, Emma French, Sue Giddings, Sandra Heller, Yvonne Holland, Rosemary Juskevich, Rebecca Koeppen, Betsy Krill, Annette LeMaire, Juanita Nelson, Cheryl Roberts, Pat Smiley, Ann Stringfellow, Dinah Swan and Lorraine Trenholm.
Cardio/Strength Interval Class
9:00am / Edgemont Highlands Community Lodge
A different workout every time, this energizing class consists of aerobic intervals to improve cardiovascular endurance combined with strength training intervals, core and balance work. Equipment provided, please bring a yoga mat for floor exercises. Your instructor is Durango personal trainer Lynn Beck. Class is open to all-1st class free! Tai Chi is good for health, balance, coordination, focus & stress reduction. Classes will include Tai Chi principles, applications, meditation & Qigong. Beginning December 3 and ongoing on Tuesdays & Thursdays at Durango Community Recreation Center. 9-10 am & 4-5 pm. Monthly and drop-in class rates available. Artist Tony Stromberg Exhibition

Join us during Durango's annual community Holiday Party on December 6th as we welcome fine art equine photographer Tony Stromberg to the gallery with a one-man show. Tony will be in attendance from 5-7pm to answer questions about his work and inspiration, as well as sign copies of his book, “Horse Medicine.” The show continues daily through the holiday season, closing on December 31.
Open Shop Day

The shop is a creative environment where other lapidary and jewelry artists generously share their knowledge, experience, techniques, and ideas. It is advisable to bring your own materials and hand tools if you have them. The Club offers an excellent variety of motorized tools, hand tools, and even some rough stone you may use to hone new skills.    Drop-ins and new members welcome. Experience is not necessary, however it is strongly recommended that new members attend a Shop Orientation that is held at 9:00 on the first Saturday of every month.    Anyone is welcome to join the Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club! Annual Membership fees are $30 per year for individuals and $45 per year for families (covers one or two adults and any children under 18 living in the same household)

Benefit Concert for Mark Walters

Fort Lewis College music professor Dr. Mark Walters suffered a sudden and massive stroke this summer. Both him and his wife Lisa Campi have a huge impact and are loved by so many of our students. Dr. Campi is trying to raise money to send her husband to Craig Hospital in Denver for rehab facilities where he can hopefully rebuild some of his basic skills, but it is very expensive.   FLC music students and community members have planned a Benefit Concert to raise money for Dr. Walters so he can attend this rehab facility. It is scheduled for December 12th from 6-11 PM at The Garage in town. Performers will include Liver Down the River, FLC students and faculty members. We will be holding a silent auction during the evening as well. SKA will be donating a keg for the event.
