Looking Glass Art Show

Meet the artists and see their work in oil, pastel and watercolor. All paintings are for sale with 30% of sales going to Durango’s Local First’s efforts to establish a Creative District in Durango. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through January 30, 2020.   The Looking Glass Collective consists of twenty artists who meet monthly to critique one another’s work. The collective also creates opportunities for exhibits such as the yearly show at Smiley, exhibits for non-profits like San Juan Citizens Alliance and shows at local businesses. The artists have all been juried into multiple national shows; many have won awards.   Looking Glass Collective artists participating in this year’s show are: Linda Bonds, Emma French, Sue Giddings, Sandra Heller, Yvonne Holland, Rosemary Juskevich, Rebecca Koeppen, Betsy Krill, Annette LeMaire, Juanita Nelson, Cheryl Roberts, Pat Smiley, Ann Stringfellow, Dinah Swan and Lorraine Trenholm.

Artist Tony Stromberg Exhibition

Join us during Durango's annual community Holiday Party on December 6th as we welcome fine art equine photographer Tony Stromberg to the gallery with a one-man show. Tony will be in attendance from 5-7pm to answer questions about his work and inspiration, as well as sign copies of his book, “Horse Medicine.” The show continues daily through the holiday season, closing on December 31.
The Bizarre Bazaar

Photos with Santa & LEGO Building Contest

Bring the family to get a picture with Santa and his Harley from 11-1 on December 14th! Pictures will be taken by Gary Vandenberg Photography.   In addition to pictures, we will have coloring pages for the kids, a craft, and Santa will read, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."   At 12:00, we will have a LEGO building contest! Children ages 7-11 will get to build their own mini Harley-Davidson Lego set to take home. The child to finish building their mini Lego set first will win a large LEGO Fat Boy Motorcycle Kit to take home!
Free Gift Wrapping in Downtown Durango

Get your Christmas gifts wrapped for FREE this season in Downtown Durango. Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1; Saturday December 14 and Sunday December 15; and Saturday December 21 and Sunday December 22, from noon to 3 pm at the Strater Hotel lobby.   Gift wrapping is in an old fashioned style, with brown paper and string, and then each gift is stamped with the Christmas Town stamp.    Brought to you by the BID and the Strater Hotel.

It’s been years since the Elves and Reindeer have gotten along. The Reindeer egos are high and Elves’ productivity is low. Will a week of vacation help remind the Elves and Reindeer what Christmas is all about?   Oliver!  In this adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, orphan Oliver Twist falls in with a group of street-urchin pickpockets led by the Artful Dodger and masterminded by the criminal Fagin. When Oliver's intended mark, Mr. Brownlow, takes pity on the lad and offers him a home, Fagin's henchman Bill Sikes plots to kidnap the boy to keep him from talking.

State Street Ballet of Santa Barbaras Nutcracker

As is now tradition at the Community Concert Hall, the magical holiday ballet, “Nutcracker,” performed by the highly-acclaimed State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara, will usher in the holidays with two matinee and two evening performances. Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson holds true to the original classical ballet in this Tchaikovsky masterpiece, creating a traditional “Nutcracker” set in Victorian times and suited for all ages. The ballet will be accompanied by a live orchestra, as the San Juan Symphony is set to perform.
