Page One Writing Contest

Is this the year you take on National Novel Writing Month? Maybe you only have an idea for a story. Perhaps you're working on your 10th novel. We don't care if you just started writing or just finished the thing, we want your first page! Submit it (and nothing else) for a chance to win prizes and have it aired on our Page One radio program!   CONTEST RULES:  "One Page" = approx. 300 - 500 words  Original works written by locals  All ages and topics welcome   Submissions accepted from : November 1 - November 31  Four winning pages will be selected by mid-December  Winners will be aired on KSUT & KDUR in January 2023  Submissions can be emailed to nancy.stoffer@durangogov.org or dropped off at Durango Public Library

It's time for a Merry & Bright Taste of Christmas 2022 
The ELHI Community Center is looking for Vendors & Volunteers for the Holiday Market and Winter Wonderland to make 2022 the best Taste Of Christmas ever!

VENDORS: We are looking for vendors that offer unique, local gifts to fill our Holiday Marketplace (in front of the ELHI) Booths are $10 for 10x10 space. Help us make Taste of Christmas the first stop on everyone's Christmas Shopping list!

VOLUNTEERS: Inspiration Square will be transformed into a winter wonderland with photos with Santa, snacks & goodies, games & activities. If you are able to help oversee or plan activities, crafts or games, we'd love your help!

Gift Gallery Call to Artists

This year's annual winter market is going to be bigger and better than ever but we need YOU and your beautiful work. We are seeking all media: Jewelry, 2-D and 3-D art, pottery, textiles, mixed media, hand-made clothing and toys for children, children's books by local authors/illustrators, and art that makes great gifts for everyone! The Durango Arts Center is pleased to invite all community artists, jewelers and crafters to submit their work for the "2022 Gift Gallery", Opening Tuesday, November 22nd through January 12th, 2023. Please register here to sell your work. After registration, you will be contacted to set up a time to deliver your art to the DAC.

Each session students will discover fun and different mediums and concepts while creating extremely unique art projects!   September - Three Dimensional Art, October - Extreme Halloween  November/December - Ceramics!   The classes offer fun, non competitive opportunities to explore new skills and individual expression.   Scholarships are available. 13 Classes.
Jewelry Making for the Soul

Each week students will discover fun and different guided projects that introduce basic jewelry making techniques.    Week one - colorful earrings with glass beads or polished stones.   Week two - wire wrapping.   Week three - bracelets.   Week four - necklaces and de-stressing with beads  and weeks 4 and 5 - Steampunk Extravaganza!
Fall After School Art and Crafts for Teens and Tweens

It's that scary time of year when the days get chillier, the nights longer, and all kinds of creatures both scary and cute walk our streets. This year, the Teen/Tween class will create a Haunted Bird House and a Vampire Gnome, "Gnomeula",for Halloween! Next, we will get ready for Thanksgiving by making a dried flower hair comb (or barrette), to decorate our hair and some darling paper lanterns , apples, and pears to decorate our tables! I know we will have tons of fun making these fabulous projects and I can't wait to see you there!

Mud-Day Madness

Mondays will become your favorite day of the week (Yes, you did read that right)!   Learn about the historical evolution of pottery and understand the various methods to create shapes and forms. Walk with your pieces through every step of creation. Together, we will focus on two modes of creating functional ware through hand-building and an introduction to wheel throwing, to create functional art for everyday use. We will spend time exploring textures, shapes, and colors.
