Durango Farmers Market
8:00am / TBK Bank Parking Lot
The Durango Farmers Market is a venue for local agriculturalists, ranchers and artisans to meet and share their harvest and talents with the Durango community. At our market you have the opportunity to meet face to face with the producers and learn more about their growing methods. Vendors post their farming practices at their booth and most follow organic growing methods.   Our market also offers hot ready to eat food from local vendors, value added foods such as jams, jellies and sauces and local artisans who make high-quality handcrafted items. All vendors must produce their goods within our five-county radius ensuring fresh produce and locally made goods. We also have live music performances each weekend as well as community information booths for non-profits and groups that promote our market values of local, sustainable and healthy living.
Vallecito Lake Heavy Half Marathon
9:00am / Vallecito Reservoir
The Vallecito Lake Heavy Half Marathon is a beautiful and scenic course around Vallecito Lake. Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado, our race course takes runners completely around the picturesque Vallecito Reservoir with a special section that runs right across Vallecito Dam. Grab a few friends and spend the weekend in the beautiful Vallecito Valley. More than just a great race, this event is a fundraiser for local non profits.
Japanese Bokkendo & Jodo
9:00am / DSBK Dojo
Bokkendo (wooden sword) and jodo (short staff) date back to medieval Japan's samurai society. Training in these ancient arts offers people in the modern world a taste of bushido, or the warrior's path to a robust spirit and unbeatable mindset. Develop greater strength, balance, coordination, and poise. Beginners are as welcome as experienced practitioners. For 20 years, DSBK has provided fun-filled training experiences open to everyone.
Durango Botanic Garden - Farmington Nature Hike
9:00am / Trail from Mesa Verde Middle School
This is a hike down in Farmington in the wilderness area around San Juan College and Pinon Hills Golf course. We would cover 4.5 to 5 miles of dirt trail, no great big elevation challenges, but some hills. I think it would take about 3 to 3.5 hrs., max, with a maximum of 10 participants. We could meet at Mesa Verde Middle School parking area at 9am. Participants should bring plenty of water and snacks, if desired. Some years the sago lilies, penstemon, cacti, yucca and scorpion weed are spectacular, other years, not so great, depending on moisture received - it's always different each spring. Pluses are that there are no great crowds, so parking is not an issue, and it is not terribly strenuous.
Silverton Summer Train
9:00am / Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
9:00am, Three times daily are available!   For a truly unforgettable step back in time, enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear riding 3 1/2 hours each way on this train while spending a nearly 2 hour layover in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and libations that Silverton offers. We've been in continuous operation running trains on this 45-mile branch of the original Denver & Rio Grande Railway since 1882. Much of the scenery remains unchanged since those historic days. There's no cell service or Wi-Fi throughout the Animas Canyon so you'll be unplugged from the modern world. Soak in the views, listen as the steam whistle echoes through the canyon, hear the vintage locomotive work to pull the train up the grades. If you long to unwind and enjoy Colorado nature at its finest, this is the trip for you.   Departing from the Durango Depot, this unforgettable trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton.   On all of these train excursions, you will experience the iconic Horseshoe Curve, High Bridge and all of the Animas River Gorge including all of the spectacular views from the High Line. These trains include a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase.   Skyway Tour (bus/train or train/bus) service options are available for the 2023 Silverton summer season excursions. See website for details.    Visit our website for train fares.
Exhibition: Anticipation - Two-Person Show with Bryce Pettit & Elsa Sroka
9:30am / Sorrel Sky Gallery
Sorrel Sky will be featuring the sculptures of Bryce Pettit and paintings of Elsa Sroka. While both artists feature domestic and wild animals in their work, the setting and context reflect a distinct individualism. Bryce keeps his pieces reductive in style. "I try to pare each piece down to the minimum necessary to tell the story." Elsa enjoys the playful nature of her images. "If it makes me smile…I know it's right." The exhibition will continue through May 31.
