Silverton Summer Train - Steam Locomotive

For a truly unforgettable step back in time, enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear riding 3 1/2 hours each way on this train while spending a nearly 2-hour layover in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and libations that Silverton offers. Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton. There will be up to three steam departures depending on the date. The Silverton Steam Train departs daily at 9:00AM 5/6/23-10/28/23, 8:15AM 8/14/23-10/14/23, and 9:45AM 9/1/23-10/14/23
The Art of Painting - Our Lives on Canvas

No class the week of November 19th.   Express yourself through painting and develop your artistic style in this inspiring class! Art has always been a creative way to preserve history, presenting various views and scenarios through the ages. In this session we will use our paintings to preserve our own history while working to create memories of our lives on canvas. Come and join us each week, with Deena Carney and learn how to paint using different painting mediums, from September to December! Students will be exposed to a variety of tips, tricks and techniques used in creating masterpieces in acrylic, oils, guache, and watercolor. Beginners are welcome! This class is also perfect for students with previous painting experience or have taken this class before. This is a perfect chance to connect with your teammates in a fun and light-hearted way. Let your imagination run wild, as you team up to unravel the missions. Lunch & Learn Workshop: Video Marketing in the Modern World

The Durango Chamber of Commerce presents Video Marketing in the Modern World with Ben Sorensen, of Ascent Digital.    Ben has always had a passion for marketing. In high school, Ben was DECA state champion in "Business Services Marketing" and a two-time national qualifier. After high school Ben attended Fort Lewis College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and a Minor in Economics. After graduating, he worked for a marketing agency for almost 9 years, before finally founding Ascent Digital in 2021. When he isn't helping businesses with their marketing, he is enjoying raising a family in Durango and enjoying all the area has to offer!    Ben also was recognized as the 2022 Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Durango Rocks Annual Awards event.    This "Lunch and Learn" will be packed with tactics you can launch at your office. Wednesdays | 10 Classes | 3:30 - 5:00 | Sept 27 - Dec 6 (No class the week of November 20th) Art has the power to change the way we see the world, showing us new perspectives, ideas, and values. Join us for Art Making Mania, where each class, students will create extremely unique and very expressive artwork, influenced by the ideas and values of your student. This class will focus on a variety of drawing, painting, sculpture and collage projects.   Our classes offer fun, encouraging, non competitive opportunities to explore new skills and individual expression. Explore a slice of local history through literature. Salone Italiano: The True Story of an Italian Immigrant Family's Struggles in Southwestern Colorado by Kay Niemann is the story of an immigrant family living in Silverton during its mining heyday at the beginning of the 20th century. Based almost entirely on letters written by the Sartore family to relatives back in Italy and illustrated with the family's historic photographs.    This event is part of the History Live program. Registration required.

Durango Figure Drawing

Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday | 6:00 - 8:00 This figure drawing session is a chance to practice and refine your artistic skills with a group of like minded friends.   Bring your preferred artistic medium. A nude model will complete a series of poses of varying lengths using a professional lighting setup. There is a $20 artist's fee ($15 for students).
