BART Caring for our Community through Creativity
10:00am / Durango Arts Center
During this program we will be exploring our community in Durango and how we can give back as creatives. On December 16th they will be focusing on the art of cooking as we learn about food handling safety, how to cook meals and distribute them to the community as a fun creative pop up. On January 20th they will be learning a plethora of art skills from a variety of different guest instructors. In February we will take some of those skills in January to paint a Mural to help beautify our community. For our last two sessions in March and April we will focus on finding the value in another man's trash as we travel down the river trail finding materials to turn into found object sculptures. During these trips we will explore the local art and learn how it helps make a difference in our society.   During each session the students will also have the option of taking a creative break to learn circus skills so they can exercise both their body and minds.   This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, learn valuable life skills all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come.   For questions, please email Mr. B, at Scholarships are available. BART offers young people, ages 11 to 17, regardless of expression or identity, the opportunity to experience art, leadership and art-based opportunities.

Figure Drawing Dynamic Dogs
1:00pm / Durango Arts Center
Get comfortable with simple drawing techniques and enjoy the process of Figure Drawing with Man's Best Friend!   The La Plata Humane Society has agreed to provide our lovely dog "models" for the class. All supplies are included, and an experienced teacher will be there to give you guidance along the way. We will mix creativity with pleasure as we unwind from a busy week, enjoy a happy hour drink, spend time with other artists, and most importantly enjoy the opportunity to sit, relax and draw a very patient dog.   Figure drawing is the practice of drawing from a live model in different poses. It trains your eye to see things that photographs just can't capture. This makes you more perceptive in all of your work—The biggest reason to practice with live animals is because it has so much to offer. Mastering the animal form is about more than just shapes and muscles and bones.   A $10 Tip or Chew Toy is Required for our models and will go directly to the LaPlata County Humane Society. Beginners are welcome! This class is also perfect for adults with previous drawing experience.
