Durango & Silverton Summer Train

Embark on an Incredible Journey Through the San Juan Mountains For a truly unforgettable step back in time, enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear riding 3 1/2 hours each way on this train while spending a nearly 2 hour layover in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and libations that Silverton offers. We've been in continuous operation running trains on this 45-mile branch of the original Denver & Rio Grande Railway since 1882. Much of the scenery remains unchanged since those historic days. Soak in the views, listen as the steam whistle echoes through the canyon, hear the vintage locomotive work to pull the train up the grades. If you long to unwind and enjoy Colorado nature at its finest, this is the trip for you.   More About This Excursion  Departing from the Durango Depot, this unforgettable trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton.   There will be up to two steam departures depending on the date. The Silverton Steam Train departs daily at 9:00AM 5/4/24-10/26/24 and 9:45 AM 8/30/24-10/12/24.   Diesel Excursions run 5/21/24-10/12/24. The Silverton Diesel Train departs at 8:15AM daily.   On all of these train excursions, you will experience the iconic Horseshoe Curve, High Bridge and all of the Animas River Gorge including all of the spectacular views from the High Line. These trains include a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Click here to see the concession menu.   Skyway Tour (bus/train or train/bus) service options are available for the 2024 Silverton summer season excursions.   There will be two bus departures available daily beginning May 21, 2024 running through October 12, 2024.   The first deluxe motor coach departs Durango at 9:30am and arrives at Silverton at 11:00am. It then departs from Silverton at 2:45pm and arrives in Durango at 4:15pm.   The second deluxe motor coach departs from Durango at 10:15am and arrives in Silverton at 11:45am. It departs from Silverton at 2:45pm and arrives in Durango at 4:15pm.   The bus service is available 7 days a week May 21 through October 12th. (no bus service on May 25)
SJMA Durango Nature Center Open to the Public

The San Juan Mountains Association's Durango Nature Center is once again open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 until 2. Sjma.org has more information.   This 140-acre conservation easement is situated along the Florida River, this special place traverses riparian, sagebrush, and pinyon juniper ecosystems. With hiking trails, river play, a picnic pavilion, interpretive trails, a nesting bird walk and more.
Revolution Enduro

We're headed to Purgatory for stop #1 of the series!   Lift tickets for race day are included in registration and required for all participants regardless of season pass status.   Ticketed event only for racers/participants. Event is free for spectators.   Official Practice Day is Saturday, June 22, and discounted practice tickets will be available directly through Purgatory Resort, and available for registered athletes only. Purgatory ticketing office will have a registration list. No exceptions will be made.   T-Shirts - Each event will have a custom T-shirt specific to the event, and only available to pre-registered athletes. If you wish to get a T-shirt you must register 30 days in advance of each event!   Food & Drink - There is no lunch included with registration, but we will work with the base area restaurants to offer discounted specials for athletes during the weekend. In order to keep registration costs down, and based on rider feedback, we have decided not to offer lunch at this event. Wherever possible, we will have refreshments available from our sponsors and for our over 21 guests, a racer beer will be available at the conclusion of the event.   Spectators - There is a discounted foot traffic lift pass available directly through the resort! We will have recommended spectator zones posted!   Lodging - Discounted Lodging is available through Purgatory Resort, and athletes can use code REVENDURO2024 for a 15% Discount on Lodging! htttps://www.purgatory.ski/activites/mountain-biking   Camping - Camping will allowed on site and there is a $25 per vehicle fee that can be added at registration under "Products" You will be issued a parking pass via email or at race check in. Cascade Canyon Express
9:30am / Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Cascade Canyon Express steam excursions depart from our Durango Depot (479 Main Avenue) at 9:45am and the excursion will last 5.25 hours arriving back at the Durango Depot at 3:00pm. The Cascade Canyon Express does not travel to Silverton. It does follow the same route but travels to Cascade Canyon, which is about a halfway point between Durango and Silverton. If you would like to travel to Silverton, please see our Silverton Train information to book one of those excursions.   Experience the world-famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's iconic canyon views along the highline in just over 5 hours. If you are looking for an unforgettable train adventure with incredible geological features and fantastic scenery that is downright jaw-dropping, look no further than these steam train excursions departing from the Durango Depot and traveling deep into the wilderness inaccessible by any roads. All trains have a concession car with a variety of light snacks available for purchase.
Veterans 7th Annual River Raft Trip & Picnic

Fluid Art with Charleaux Designs

Local artist CHRIS VICARI of Charleaux Designs is our guest instructor for this unique experience in pour painting.   This class will demonstrate creating an abstract painting using the ribbon pour fluid art technique. You will leave this class with a vibrant fluid art painting of your very own to keep, and an understanding of the medium.    Topics covered will include workspace preparation, required tools, paint mixing, paint pouring, and how to dry your painting. A small class size and a two-hour class length ensures that you will get dedicated time with a professional fluid artist to ask questions.   Supplies are provided.

Bar D Wranglers perform in concert after supper with music and songs of old west cowboys, comedy, and lively instrumentals. The show is fun for the whole family.   Activities, shops, and ticketing open at 4:30, supper is at 6:30. Open Memorial Day Weekend through the last Saturday in September - Rain or Shine!   Reservations are required.
