Wood Belly (Early Show / Two Sets)
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
Animas City Theatre Presents An Evening with Wood Belly  Early Show: Doors 7:00pm // Show: 8:00pm // 21+  General Admission Show  Tickets on Sale May 28th online at www.animascitytheatre.com   Wood Belly  Something downright mystical is happening on Colorado’s Front Range. The very roots of traditional acoustic music seem to sprout from the dirt, shaking their dust into the winds of change, to be breathed in and become the soul of musicians who craft their songs here.   Such is the music of Wood Belly, a musical collective of Chris Weist (mandolin), Tom Knowlton (guitar), Chris Zink (dobro), Aaron McCloskey (banjo) and Taylor Shuck (bass). A Wood Belly song has its own lyrical persona and masterful arrangement; rooted in bluegrass tradition and planted solidly in contemporary innovation.   The band has been garnering attention since the release of their 2018 debut album Solid Ground, which was followed by a win at the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition (earning them a main stage performance slot at the 2019 festival), as well as an IBMA Momentum Band of the Year nomination.   Wood Belly released it’s second album, Man on the Radio in January of 2020 capping an impressive stretch of writing and releases. The new 13-track collection was recorded at Swingfingers Studio in Fort Collins, CO with Grammy winning producer Sally Van Meter and engineer Aaron Youngberg, and features special guest fiddler Jeremy Garrett of The Infamous Stringdusters on several tracks.   https://www.woodbellymusic.com  https://www.facebook.com/WoodBelly  https://www.youtube.com/woodbelly

Ally Venable
4:00pm / Tico Time River Resort
Ally Venable   Heart Of Fire  Released 2021 on Ruf Records   This is no time for faint hearts. The pandemic might have silenced the music scene, shuttered the live circuit and divided artists from their fans. But with Heart Of Fire, Texas's favourite new gunslinger Ally Venable is coming off the ropes swinging. Defying dark times and rolling up the amps, this fourth release from the acclaimed singer-songwriter is a record to rattle your speakers and signpost better times ahead. "My vision was to really spread a positive message of love," says Venable. "The world needs that right now."   If Heart Of Fire finds Venable giving the globe some much-needed love, then the feeling is entirely mutual. Still in her early twenties, the guitarist's breakneck two decades have moved as fast as her fingers, her path winding from childhood church choirs to the teenage influence of local heroes like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Miranda Lambert. Early releases No Glass Shoes (2016) and Puppet Show (2018) earned her international fans, Top 10 chart placings and ETX Awards, but it was 2019's #2 Billboard-charting Texas Honeyand house-rocking sets on that year's Blues Caravan tour that sent her stratospheric. Now, with Venable's fanbase snaking further around the block every time she blows into town, Texas roots icon and Texas Honeyproducer Mike Zito is in no doubt: "Ally is the future of blues and the crossover music of American roots-rock."   Not even a global pandemic could derail her momentum. Working at the Bessie Blue Studio in Stantonville, Tennessee last February with world-renowned producer Jim Gaines, Heart Of Fire finds Venable laser-focused on her songcraft, challenging herself to write with unguarded honesty, even if it hurts. "On this album, I really wanted to create a tone of overcoming your struggles and persevering through them," she explains.   Like any battle, this record gets loud. Anyone who has left an Ally Venable show with ringing ears will come expecting rip-it-up guitar work, and Heart Of Fire is a lovely way to burn. In a world of electronic pop, this old-soul gunslinger riffs up a storm on the Led Zeppelin-worthy sting of Hard Change and Do It In Heels, revs up the slinky hook of Sad Situation and drives the title track's intro with a heavy-booted wah lick. "That song is about being in a state of sadness," she explains, "and someone comes along and brings you out of it, and then nobody is able to take out your flame."    Guest Kenny Wayne Shepherd, tears up Bring On The Pain. As Venable says: "That song is about loving someone, staying true to yourself during the bad times and saying, 'No matter what's going on, my love won't change'. Kenny is one of my heroes, so I'm very honoured he said yes to be a part of the song."   https://allyvenableban

Cash'd Out - The Premiere Tribute to Johnny Cash
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
Animas City Theatre Presents  Cash'd Out - The Premiere Tribute to Johnny Cash   Tickets on Sale 10:00am Monday June 21st at www.animascitytheatre.com     Cash'd Out Bio:  "Some people are impressionists. These guys leave an impression". Says Bill Miller, owner of Johnny Cash.com about Cash'd Out, a San Diego based band that channels Johnny Cash in about as close a manner to the real thing as it gets.    After thirteen years, traveling hundreds of thousands of miles on the road and winning over as many fans, fans who still continually tell the group how grateful they are that Cash'd Out so righteously carries the torch of the Johnny Cash Show.    Besides music critics anointing Cash'd Out as "the next best thing to Johnny Cash", their highlights have been many:    W.S. Holland, Johnny Cash's longtime drummer, has sat in with Cash'd Out; front man, Douglas Benson, has played Johnny's cherry sunburst Guild guitar (courtesy of Mr. Miller); "Cindy Cash came to a show and was moved to give me a glass locket that was her father's," explains Benson; Longtime Johnny Cash manager Lou Robin has also been to several Cash'd Out shows and claimed that if he closed his eyes it was as if "going back in time."; And most recently, an unforgettable evening performing the music of Johnny Cash with the San Diego Symphony as a special event for their Summer Pops Series.    The band's live shows respectfully reference the late, great Man in Black's Sun Records and early Columbia era sound, combined with the energy of the classic multi-platinum live recordings from Folsom Prison and San Quentin. The group's genuine love (and authentic recreation) of Johnny Cash's music and its universal appeal fans of all ages and of virtually all musical genres makes each Cash'd Out show a must-see event.    Or as Bill Miller says, "Some people are impressionists. These guys leave an impression."    http://www.cashdout.com   https://www.facebook.com/cashdoutband  https://www.instagram.com/cashdoutband

Add sick jazz-funk guitar, and two frontmen in full-beaded holiday regalia, and the result was a portable Mardi Gras Dance Party!" - Rolling Stone    " I've seen the future of New Orleans music and its name is Cha Wa." - Paste    "Cha Wa blends Mardi Gras Indian tradition and modern pop magic." - No Depression    https://www.chawaband.com  https://www.facebook.com/ChaWaBand  https://twitter.com/ChaWaBand  https://open.spotify.com/artist/18OO8F6DbNshxJbZ5ugprO  https://instagram.com/chawaband  www.youtube.com/chawaband

Party In The Park Durango and Pagosa
5:00pm / Buckley Park
The Motet, Afrobeatniks to play KSUT Parties in the Park Instead of holding just one of its signature Party in the Park in 2021, KSUT will hold two such events - on Friday, July 30 in Durango's Buckley Park, and on Saturday, July 31 in Pagosa Springs Town Park. Both concerts are sponsored by Bank of the San Juans and feature The Motet and Afrobeatniks.   Tickets are on sale at KSUTPresents.org and cost $30 per day, or $50 for two days. Tickets will also be available at the front gate at each concert. Gates will open at 4 p.m. each day, with live music starting at 5:30. Children 12 and younger are free with a paying adult. Pets are not allowed at either event.   "We invite music fans to celebrate public radio and our diverse blend of music at each of these events," said KSUT Executive Director Tami Graham. "It's our way of giving back to the Four Corners and thanking our listeners and members for being part of the KSUT family, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when we were unable to present live music."   The two events mark KSUT's 17th annual Party in the Park, which usually celebrates world music, jazz, funk and New Orleans genres with acts meant to get the crowd dancing. Past performers have included The Iguanas, Shinyribs, Crash Test Dummies, The Subdudes, The Greencards, The New Orleans Suspects, Todo Mundo, The Big Takeover, Baracutanga, The Stooges Brass Band, Jarabe Mexicano and others.   The Parties in the Park will also include food vendors and beer, cider and wine booths. Ska Brewing, Fenceline Cider and wines courtesy of Wagon Wheel Liquors will be sold in Durango. Riff Raff Brewing and Fenceline Cider will be sold in Pagosa Springs. Customers must be 21 years of age or older with a valid ID showing proof of age to purchase alcoholic beverages.   The Motet is a Denver-based band that has blended funk, soul, jazz and world music influences ever since drummer and bandleader Dave Watts founded the group in 1998.   The group is a musical collective with a rotating cast of musicians - hence the name "Motet" as opposed to quartet, quintet, sextet and so on. The current incarnation of the group includes Watts, guitarist Ryan Jalbert, bassist Garrett Sayers, keyboardist Joey Porter and saxophonist Drew Sayers.   Afrobeatniks are a jazz, Latin and world music group with members based in Mancos and Durango. They draw their inspiration from popular, folkloric and spiritual music of West Africa, with Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz, reggae, funk and rock influences adding to the musical roux. In particular, the music of Nigerian Afro-pop in the style of Fela Kuti and Tony Allen and the traditional folkloric rhythm structures of Guinea are evident in both original music and spirited covers.   Tickets for both shows are available here:  https://w

We’ve been in continuous operation running train excursions on this 45-mile spur of the Denver & Rio Grande rail line since 1882. Much of the scenery remains unchanged since then. There’s no cell service or Wi-Fi through much of the terrain so you’ll be unplugged from the modern world. Soak in the views, listen as the steam whistle echoes through the canyon, hear the vintage locomotive work to pull the train up the grades. If you long to unwind and enjoy Colorado nature at its finest, this is the trip for you.
