The Badly Bent

The Badly Bent has been playing bluegrass music since 1998. Based in Durango, Colorado, the band was the winner of the 2005 Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition and has performed at over 100 festivals across the United States. The band has recently released its third CD, "Too Late To Care', which follows previous releases of "The Badly Bent" and "Olive or Twist." For James Ranch, we will be a trio comprised of Cindi Trautmann (fiddle, vocals), Patrick Dressen (guitar, vocals), and Mark Epstein (banjo, vocals).

Create Art and Tea is now hosting First Friday. First Friday is an effort to bring art and charitable foundations together. On the First Friday of every month, Create Art and Tea will host an art opening featuring new artists.    Featured artists will choose a charity to support. A portion of the proceeds made from purchased art will go to the organization of choice. On opening night, you can expect light refreshments, live musical performances, the opportunity to meet the artists, and hear about the charitable organizations. The works for sale will remain in the loft area of the gallery for the remaining duration of each month.   Times may vary. The Durango Farmers Market is a venue for local agriculturalists, ranchers and artisans to meet and share their harvest and talents with the Durango community. At our market you have the opportunity to meet face to face with the producers and learn more about their growing methods. Vendors post their farming practices at their booth and most follow organic growing methods.   Our market also offers hot ready to eat food from local vendors, value added foods such as jams, jellies and sauces and local artisans who make high-quality handcrafted items. All vendors must produce their goods within our five-county radius ensuring fresh produce and locally made goods. We also have live music performances each weekend as well as community information booths for non-profits and groups that promote our market values of local, sustainable and healthy living.

Hands-on Digital Photography Workshop

This class is perfect for the beginning digital photographer. During the course of the workshop you will learn how to set all the basic controls on your camera, as well as understanding the important menu items and shooting modes available. We'll focus on strategies for improving your photography, including how to achieve perfect color, how to capture the decisive moment, and how to improve the quality of your photographs. Additional dates are available. Class meets either at Future Light Digital studio at Elk Park, Durango, or the Durango Community Recreation Center depending on class size.
Beverage Tastings

Learn more about what we're crafting AND sample our incredible chocolate or beverages at our in-cafe tastings!    Join us every other Wednesday at 5:00 pm for a free, educational beverage tasting. These tastings are in-house trainings to educate our staff about our offerings and we love to have the public join us!   Beverage tastings may be coffee or espresso based, or might include alcohol such as spirits or wine; it all depends on what our staff is learning about that week!   Each week will be something different, whether we're tasting the difference between a cappuccino (or as we call it, The Claim Jumper) and a Harlot (otherwise known as a latte), or sampling a new cocktail we're considering for our cocktail & chocolate pairing menu.   No ticket or RSVP is necessary, simply join us in the cafe to sit in, enjoy some chocolate, and learn something new! Plus, don't forget: on the Wednesdays we aren't doing beverage tastings, we'll be doing chocolate tastings! Join us each Wednesday at 5:00 for an in-cafe tasting!

The Durango Fall Blaze is a bicycle tour to raise money for Fort Lewis College Cycling Scholarships. Over the past three years we have raised over $80,000 for scholarships for the cycling team.    This year there are three different events and six courses. We have 2 road rides, 2 mountain bike rides and 2 gravel rides.The gravel and mountain bike courses are new to the Fall Blaze this year. 34th Annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering

Four days of fun filled celebration of Durango's western heritage. The event includes evening shows and Saturday daytime sessions highlighting cowboy poetry, music, humor and storytelling. This year's premier performance on Thursday evening features Dave Stamey, one of the best cowboy entertainers still working today. He has been voted seven times Entertainer of the Year, seven times Male Performer of the Year and Five times Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association, and received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists. The Friday and Saturday night shows will feature a Cowboy Humor show as well as a traditional concert. On Saturday morning the famous Cowboy parade, the largest motorless parade in Colorado, celebrates the lifestyles of rural people, as well as focusing on various organizations in the community. Come early and enjoy a hearty chuckwagon breakfast, another activity that promotes an appreciation of the culture and traditions unique to the Old West. Finally on Sunday, "A Cowboy and His Creator", featuring inspirational poetry and music will be held at the Durango Cowboy Church.

34th Annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering

Four days of fun filled celebration of Durango's western heritage. The event includes evening shows and Saturday daytime sessions highlighting cowboy poetry, music, humor and storytelling. This year's premier performance on Thursday evening features Dave Stamey, one of the best cowboy entertainers still working today. He has been voted seven times Entertainer of the Year, seven times Male Performer of the Year and Five times Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association, and received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists. The Friday and Saturday night shows will feature a Cowboy Humor show as well as a traditional concert. On Saturday morning the famous Cowboy parade, the largest motorless parade in Colorado, celebrates the lifestyles of rural people, as well as focusing on various organizations in the community. Come early and enjoy a hearty chuckwagon breakfast, another activity that promotes an appreciation of the culture and traditions unique to the Old West. Finally on Sunday, "A Cowboy and His Creator", featuring inspirational poetry and music will be held at the Durango Cowboy Church.
