Pain Care Yoga
4:00pm / Yogadurango
Pain is not always an accurate indication of what is happening in the body. Despite widespread beliefs about pain, we have the capacity to rewire the neurological processes that send danger signals from the peripheral nervous system to the brain, and we can change our pain!   Lynn Wickersham has been teaching yoga for 12 years and holds a Certificate in Pain Care Yoga. She teaches yogic practices for pain management incorporating breath work, meditation, mantra, mudra, and gentle movement. These techniques help people living with persistent pain to move with more ease, experience less pain, and improve quality of life.    Participants are asked to contact Lynn (lynnellen2065@gmail.com) for a brief consultation and to complete an intake form prior to attending Pain Care Yoga classes. No prior yoga is experience required. Chairs, bolsters, and other props will be provided for comfort and safety.

Medicine Women: The Story of the First Native American Nursing School - with author Jim Kristofic
6:30pm / Maria's Bookshop
Maria's Bookshop will host a reading and book signing with author Jim Kristofic for his book, "Medicine Women: The Story of the First Native American Nursing School"   After the Indian wars, many Americans still believed that the only good Indian was a dead Indian. But at Ganado Mission in the Navajo country of northern Arizona, a group of missionaries and doctors--who cared less about saving souls and more about saving lives--chose a different way and persuaded the local parents and medicine men to allow them to educate their daughters as nurses. The young women struggled to step into the world of modern medicine, but they knew they might become nurses who could build a bridge between the old ways and the new. In this detailed history, Jim Kristofic traces the story of Ganado Mission on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Kristofic's personal connection with the community creates a nuanced historical understanding that blends engaging narrative with careful scholarship to share the stories of the people and their commitment to this place.

Tickets $15/$20/18+  Doors 9:00pm  Show 10:00pm  Tickets available at Animas City Theatre, Animas Trading Company, and online at www.animascitytheatre.com   Standing Room Only / Limited Seating in Balcony  Dead Floyd  http://www.deadfloyd.com  Dead Floyd is a celebration of the music of two of rock and roll’s greatest bands, The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, mashed together into one high-energy, unpredictable show. Drawing from both extensive catalogs of music, the Dead Floyd performances include early rarities to modern classics and everything in between. The love of the music of both bands inspires Dead Floyd to uniquely interpret the songs in a way that allows the music to timelessly live on and the legacy of both bands to stay alive to the next generation of fans. The excitement, creativity, and improvisation that went into both bands live shows of so many years is brought back for old and new fans to enjoy today.    Because the number of songs available from both bands is so large, the question that is heard at every Dead Floyd show is “What will they play next?” The unpredictability of the set list and the modern translation of classic, beloved songs bring an element of surprise to every Dead Floyd show. That is what has kept fans captivated and why their legacy as a tribute band continues to grow.    Dead Floyd is based out of Fort Collins, Colorado and, since forming in summer 2009, they have performed at renowned venues such as The Fox Theater, Aggie Theatre, Boulder Theater, Mishawaka Amphitheatre, Belly Up Aspen, and more. In addition, the band has been consistently voted one of the top tribute bands in Colorado.    Dead FloydThe members of the band draw on their roots in jazz, funk, and rock to bring a high level of musicianship to the music and close attention to detail. The band is made up of Charlie Humphreys (guitar, vocals), Josh Miller (bass, vocals), Stu Crair (drums, vocals), and Matt Goldberg (keys, synth). This group of players has combined to perform over 1000 shows across the country in various original projects including The Grippe, Musketeer Gripweed, Hot Gazpacho, The Maji, Wooleye, Holy Moses and the High Rollers, Orooni, and many more.    The audience response to Dead Floyd has been overwhelming for everyone involved and the fans’ love of the music pushes this project to new heights. Come to the next show and find out why...

Stories Beyond Borders
6:00pm / Durango Public Library
At a moment when the rights of immigrants are being attacked, a fuller story of immigration needs to be told to address the harms perpetuated by immigration enforcement practices and policies that extend beyond the crisis at the border. Whether it’s through raids, people being picked up at courthouses, or being forced to live in churches - families are being separated and attacked across America.     You’re invited to Stories Beyond Borders, five short films that show a more complete picture of the attacks on immigrant families and communities. Beyond building empathy, these films lift up real stories of resilience and strength, while illustrating some of the ways people can give their time, energy, and resources to support organizing led by immigrant communities.     Join us for this screening & discussion to learn more and find out how you can stand up against these attacks! This event is hosted by Companeros, Durango Public Library, and Working Films.

He brings a passion for sound design and cutting edge audio exploration into all the work he touches. His music transcends the constructs normally associated with a calculated “electronic artist,” pursuing music with meaning and purpose with downtempo, future bass and progressive electronic music, rife with emotional intent and poly-rhythmic percussion.   Bluetech began his training as a classically trained pianist at a young age, and has explored his craft as a DJ, musician, film composer, record producer and label owner. His work has evolved to include his roots in classical composition and ear for nomadic harmonic progressions and a deep awareness of music as a kinetic force with body moving beat mechanics.  Working as a solo artist, as well as a producer, he has written scores for film & television (CSI: Miami, Scared Sacred, Occupy Love, Albedo Absolute, various television commercials), video games (Comet Crash 2 – forthcoming PS4) and virtual reality installations (MicrodoseVR). In addition to music, Evan has established a reputation as an accomplished graphic designer, illustrator, and 3D animator through both his personal work and commissions for clients (Microsoft, Austin City Limited, City Of Seattle). Bluetech has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally, having shared stages with such acts as The Glitch Mob, The Orb, Bassnectar, Ott, Juno Reactor and many more. Bluetech’s latest album “4 Horsemen of the Electrocalypse: The Black Horse” is an analog and modular based composition, in the same vein that he explored with his previous two albums “The Red Horse” and “The White Horse,” both released in 2016. Ranging from dark Detroit influenced electro, synthfunk, to more melodic techno explorations, this release pushes forward Bluetech’s unique analog based approach to sound and music production.

We provide you with everything you need - from canvas and paints, to brushes, smocks, palette, and easel. You provide yourself, your creativity, and enthusiasm! We try to limit each session to 10 participants to insure that everyone receives adequate individual attention. In addition, if you have a group of people, we will prepare a painting on a theme that has a particular meaning for the group. Please call 970-259-2606 if you are interested in this option.

Pain is not always an accurate indication of what is happening in the body.

Headed Into the Wind - Author event with Jack Loeffler
6:30pm / Maria's Bookshop
With the temperament of Santa Claus and the tenacity of a badger, Jack Loeffler reveals his compassion and concern for Southwestern traditional cultures and their respective habitats in the wake of Manifest Destiny. Working both as an individual and with comrades--including Edward Abbey and Gary Snyder--he was part of an early coterie of counterculturalists and environmentalists who fought to thwart the plunder of natural resources in the Southwest. Loeffler, a former jazz musician, fire lookout, museum curator, bioregionalist, and self-taught aural historian, shares his humor and imagination, his adventures, observations, reflections, and meditations along the trail in his retelling of a life well lived. In this honest memoir, he advises each and every one of us to go skinny-dipping joyfully in the flow of Nature to better understand where we're headed.
