The benefits that trees provide to a community are more than just shade and aesthetics. Communities from the plains to the mountains have been planting trees on downtown streets since the 1800’s. In the beginning these trees were just native trees dug up from riverbanks and mountain forests. Today, downtown street tree planting is much more sophisticated requiring financing, planning, and coordinated efforts.
