Beginning Sun Style Tai Chi
Durango Recreation Center
Every Monday: 8:15 am to 9:15 am   The regular practice of Tai Chi has many benefits including improved balance, strength, flexibility, stress reduction and improved overall health and well-being. In this class, you will learn a series of movements put together into a short form that can be practiced in as little as five minutes a day. We will also practice Qigong (health exercises).    Instructor Denise Lane has been practicing Tai Chi for most of her adult life. At the request of her Shifu (Master Teacher), she began teaching in 1996. She is certified in Yang, Sun, Qigong, and Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention.

Join us for Making the World a Better Place Through Art! 10 weekly classes focusing on culture and humanity will become our most important subject. Students will explore ceramic clay, sculpture, college, and painting. Tuesdays | 10 classes | 6:00 - 8:00 | Sept 26 - Dec 5 With a live model, and an excellent instructor, where all supplies are included, at the DAC on Tuesday Nights!   Figure drawing is the practice of drawing from a live model in different poses. It trains your eye to see things that photographs just can't capture. This makes you more perceptive in all of your work—The biggest reason to practice with the human figure is because it has so much to offer. Green Level Adult Improv Class

Tuesdays | 4 Classes | 6:00 - 8:00 | Oct 24 - Nov 28   Adult Improv with Mary Quinn   DAC is sponsoring a 4-week class with veteran improv actor and teacher, Mary Quinn, to help you fall in love with the art of improvisation! This class is built to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of improv with a series of exercises that will unlock your creativity and remind you how fun it is to play well with others. Say "Yes, And…" and jump in for some fun (and a little funny along the way)!   $100 for four weeks  Students, Teachers, & Service Worker - $60   Email Tess for the student, educator, and service industry discount.   Due to the nature of improv, this class is restricted to students 18 years and older.

The Art of Painting - Our Lives on Canvas

No class the week of November 19th.   Express yourself through painting and develop your artistic style in this inspiring class! Art has always been a creative way to preserve history, presenting various views and scenarios through the ages. In this session we will use our paintings to preserve our own history while working to create memories of our lives on canvas. Come and join us each week, with Deena Carney and learn how to paint using different painting mediums, from September to December! Students will be exposed to a variety of tips, tricks and techniques used in creating masterpieces in acrylic, oils, guache, and watercolor. Beginners are welcome! This class is also perfect for students with previous painting experience or have taken this class before. Durango Figure Drawing

Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday | 6:00 - 8:00 This figure drawing session is a chance to practice and refine your artistic skills with a group of like minded friends.   Bring your preferred artistic medium. A nude model will complete a series of poses of varying lengths using a professional lighting setup. There is a $20 artist's fee ($15 for students). Thursdays | 4 Classes | 11:00 - 12:00 | Oct 5 - Oct 26. Kids ages 8 and up will learn a nonviolent approach to dealing with conflicts and bullying. They will practice fundamental movements, exercises, and Aikido techniques. Throughout the series, kids will get to experience what it feels like to blend with an attack or a problem in order to move skillfully and resolve the issue. Participants will also develop mindfulness habits through meditative breathing practice. They will learn how to handle the bokken (sword) and jo (short staff) to improve their physical coordination. Expect plenty of fun games, too.   When kids train in Aikido, they come away with greater confidence, balance, coordination, and focus.

This fun 5 week class (a psychic skills celebration!) includes techniques and practice with Remote Viewing (receiving impressions about a distant or unseen location), Psychometry (reading the energy of sentimental objects), Telepathy (sending and receiving thoughts), Aura Reading (you'll read each other's aura), Mediumship (talking to loved ones and Spiritual Guides on the other side) and a Group Past Life Regression where you'll experience one previous lifetime and gain valuable insight to help you in your life now.   We'll use "intuitive play" exercises to access and explore all these areas.
