“Happy Days†are here again, as Steamworks’ brewers have imagined the brew that the Fonz’s squeeze Pinky Tuscadero would have chosen. Firkin Fridays continues at Steamworks Brewing Co. on Friday, June 1, 2012, with the introduction of the Pinky Tuscaderos firkin. The cask will be tapped at 3 p.m.
“Pinky Tuscadero liked all things ‘pink’ so this firkin does indeed have a pink tint,†said Ken Martin, Steamworks head brewer. “You might have also said that Pinky Tuscadero was a tall, cool drink. You’ll get that with this firkin.â€
The base of the Pinky Tuscaderos is Steamworks’ award-winning Colorado Kölsch and is re-fermented with pink guava fruit puree and Champagne yeast.
“It should be a light, dry and refreshing fruit beer,†said Spencer Roper, Steamworks assistant brewer. “With slight flavors and aromas of tropical fruit and a nice pink hue, this edition of Friday's firkin should appeal to all the senses, just like Pinky Tuscadero.â€
A firkin is an old English unit of volume, typically a wooden cask equal to approximately one-quarter of a regular barrel, or nine gallons. Firkin beer is unpasteurized, unfiltered and naturally carbonated, or conditioned, it its cask. It is served at approximately 55 degrees - cool but not cold, and because it contains no preservatives, it’s designed to be consumed after tapping.
“We’ve got a large following for Firkin Fridays, and it typically grows in the summer. These unique brews are perfect for sampling out on the deck,†said Martin. “Come early to make sure you get a pint. You won’t find it anywhere else.â€
Steamworks initiated its Firkin Fridays to introduce unusual, specialty craft beers to patrons, and augment its regular, award-winning offerings.
