Workshop with Durango Nature Studies: Birding - Spring Nesting
Sat, June 2, 2018
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
This workshop is the first of a two part series introducing the basics of birding, focusing on those birds that come to the riparian corridors of the Southwest to nest during the spring. We will learn the appearance and habits of the major bird families at the nature center, and use this as a context for identifying individual birds by sight and sound. We'll also explore bird ecology and learn the nuances of the roles or 'niche' filled by each species we find in the high desert habitat. You'll gain practice using field guides, pick up a new skill to take with you on your own outdoor adventures, and leave with a new sense of appreciation for our feathery neighbors!
A limited number of binoculars are available to borrow, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Contact Mike Bienkowski at 970-769-6482 or mike@durangonaturestudies.org for more information or to register!
