DESCRIPTION
Have you ever wondered what those little holes are in the ground on the sunny, dry slopes of our area? Are you curious about a creature whose dating life threatens males with a violent death in the event of rejection, or even after mating? If so, join Durango Nature Studies for a Tarantula workshop on September 28th. Fall is Tarantula time in the high deserts and Pinon-Juniper forests of the Colorado plateau. Hidden underground for most of the year, these reclusive residents give in to a wanderlust that drives males to rove great distances in search of females, in the process exposing themselves to predation, and perhaps most dangerous of all, the potentially violent whims of the females themselves! Join us for an exploratory hike, fun facts, and activities centered on the lives of these fascinating creatures.
