DESCRIPTION
The Museum is currently showcasing a number of exhibits this season. Located in the Welcome Gallery is the Lummi Nation Bear Totem Pole, which will be at the museum for an indefinite amount of time; touching the totem pole is encouraged. On the second level of the Welcome Gallery is Living with Wolves Photographic Exhibit, courtesy of Jim and Jamie Dutcher, founders of the Living with Wolves organization. Living with Wolves offers you a rare glimpse inside the lives of wolves and is on exhibit until November 30, 2018. The Temporary Gallery is host to Riders of the West: Portraits from Indian Rodeo. This loaned exhibit is courtesy of the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Riders of the West is on view through February 2019. The Veterans’ Alcove highlights tribal members who served in the military. The exhibit also features a bronze “Point Man” statue accompanying the display of basketry, photographs, and beadwork. The foundation of the museum lies in the Permanent Gallery. This space chronicles the story of the Ute people, Numi Nuuchiyu, We Are the Ute People, from prehistoric to modern times.
