DESCRIPTION
Cash bar before and after. Barbara Conrad Gallery at the Durango Arts Center Free admission Internationally known sculptor and painter Veryl Goodnight will present this lecture in conjunction with "Water in the West," the Durango Arts Center’s annual members’ exhibit. A resident of Mancos, Colorado, Goodnight derives her inspiration from the dramatic landscape, abundant wildlife and the ranching community of southwestern Colorado. The essence of her work, both in sculpture and painting, is the result of working from real-life models of people and animals in her studio and in the great outdoors. Her work can be found across the USA and around the globe. A seven-ton sculpture, “The Day the Wall Came Down,” featuring five horses jumping over the fallen Berlin Wall, is permanently installed in Berlin, Germany, and a copy of this sculpture is permanently displayed at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A & M University. Copies of her retrospective book, No Turning Back: The Art of Veryl Goodnight, will be available for purchase at the lecture. She will sign book purchases and will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales to the Durango Arts Center. She will also have examples of her work for the public to see at the presentation and for a week in the Barbara Conrad Gallery for a week following the program. The Goodnight Trail Gallery in Mancos features more of her work and is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
