DESCRIPTION
$125 for DAC members, $150 for non-members $25 materials fee Registration deadline: August 17 | Call Pegi Peterson at (970) 385-8461 to register In this workshop, students will investigate their own perceptions of family and culture as they generate concepts for an artist’s book through reading, group exercises and viewing historical and contemporary book work. Each participant will create their own book through a guided exploration that incorporates book design, narrative and techniques for reproducing word and image. Students will work with a modified version of the Secret Belgium Binding, which lends itself to the integration of small objects, text and images. This workshop is for anyone interested in creating an artist’s book, whether in digital form or executed entirely by hand. Alicia’s exhibit, Feeble Points of Reference, will be in the DAC Art Library during September and October. Her works are her interpretation and studio exploration of Ferdinand de Saussure’s principles of linguistics. Her handmade books combine traditional letterpress and printmaking processes with new and sometimes unorthodox techniques and materials. Her work can be found in collections such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Getty Research Institute and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Alicia is an assistant professor at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, where she teaches printmaking, typography and book arts.
