The Durango Arts Center (DAC) will present the Readings for its 9th Annual 10-Minute Play Festival? on May 31st at 7:30 pm. It is at the readings where an invited jury will choose the winner of the festival and the audience will vote to decide the People’s Choice award winner, as well as the plays that will be produced on the DAC stage in October. The overall winner will receive a $500 prize and the People’s Choice will receive a $100 prize. For the first time, the audience will not only choose the People’s Choice Award but will also choose which plays will be produced in October. Actors will present eight plays as traditional readings: bare stage, scripts in hand, so the audience can focus on each playwright's script exclusively. The reading committee consisted of 19 members of the Durango community who evaluated 120 plays through 5 rounds to narrow down the 8 finalists. The culminating event in DAC’s 10-Minute Play Celebration is a fully staged play festival of the winners which will be held on October 18-20. The readings and the festival feature local performers and directors who produce the finalist plays on the Diane Panelli Stage at DAC.
