San Juan Mountains Association’s 25th Anniversary Kickoff –
An Evening with Dave Hahn

SJMA invites the public to an evening presentation by Dave Hahn – professional mountain guide, ski patroller, journalist and lecturer – on Sunday, January 27, 2013 in the Smiley Building Theater, Durango.

Dave will share stories and photos of his amazing mountain adventures, rescues and narrow escapes on the world’s most challenging peaks, among them Mt. Everest, Denali, and recently Vinson Massif, Antarctica’s highest mountain.

You can meet Dave at the pre-event party at the Smiley Building from 4-5:30 pm. Steamworks Brewing will provide the beer and appetizers. The formal presentation begins at 6 pm.

Throughout the event, there will be an auction that includes outdoor and mountaineering gear, adventure vacations, local festival tickets and more.

Tickets that include the pre-event party are $25. Presentation only tickets are $15. Tickets are available at SJMA Bookstores located in the Public Lands Offices in Durango, Bayfield, Dolores and Pagosa Springs. Tickets are also available at Alpine Bank, Backcountry Experience, Pine Needle Mountaineering, and on line at sjma.org and at the door.

Dave Hahn who specializes in guiding climbs on high, glaciated mountains, has reached the summit of Mt. Everest 14 times, the most for a non-Sherpa climber. He was also a member of the team that discovered the remains of George Mallory at 27,000 ft. on Mt. Everest’s North Face. Among other notable accomplishments are his 31 summits of Vinson Massif. Dave has led 29 attempts on Denali in 27 years, and has guided climbers to the summit of Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world, twice.

Dave’s numerous awards for daring rescues include the Citizen’s Award for Bravery from the Department of the Interior for a rescue on Rainier and the Denali Pro Mountaineer of the Year commendation from the National Park Service for a rescue performed on Denali.
