Washi & Other Ephemera: The Art of Hand Papermaking

The exhibit will feature handmade paper works and installations by ten nationally recognized paper artists along with a mini-retrospective of Mary Ellen Long’s paper sculpture and installations. Timothy D. Barrett, a research scientist, adjunct professor of papermaking and the director of the University of Iowa Center for the Book and 2009 recipient of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, MacArthur Fellowships, known as the “Genius Grants,†is a visiting presenter.
Opening Reception: Friday, August 23, 5–7 p.m. Introduction to the exhibit by Mary Ellen Long and demonstration of Japanese hand papermaking by Timothy Barrett at 5:30 p.m. DAC will borrow a large Japanese papermaking vat from the University of Iowa for this exhibition.
The exhibit will also offer handmade paper sheets for sale by local papermakers Gail Nadeau and Jane Pedersen, as well as imported Japanese papers (Washi) for sale from Hiromi Paper International.
