Ballet Ariel and the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra showcase ‘The Birth of Rock and Roll’ on August 11th, at 6:00 pm at the Smiley Theater in Durango. ‘The Birth of Rock and Roll’ features Ballet Ariel’s professional company, and recorded live music by the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. This original ballet tells the story of how music and culture changed from the 1930s to 1950s, beginning with the swing era when Benny Goodman created a furor with his swinging style in big city ballrooms like the Savoy in New York City.
