Workshop with Liza Williams, Alternative Horizons Domestic Violence Services Advocate, and Lisa Donelan, in collaboration with the ROAR Coalition.
This special event features separate parent and teen sessions. Because of the teen session, childcare will not be provided for the youngsters, but they are welcome to hang out with us in the parent session!
Parent Session
Parenting isn’t easy, and sometimes the hardest part is knowing how to keep the lines of communication open. This workshop is all about building a safe and supportive space where your teen feels comfortable coming to you for help, advice, or just to talk.
Together, we’ll explore:
How to create the right conditions for real, meaningful conversations.
Using a simple “code word” your child can use when they need support.
Ways to prevent conflict and keep conversations calm, even when emotions run high.
How to notice red and yellow flags - and respond in a way that keeps the door open instead of shutting it.
Respecting your child's autonomy and boundaries while staying connected.
We’ll also have an anonymous Q&A session where you can submit questions ahead of time with a QR code, or drop them into the “Q Jar” during the workshop.
This is a welcoming space to learn, share, and walk away with tools you can use right away to strengthen your connection with your teen—while giving them the freedom to grow and thrive.
Teen Session
Ever had a friend going through something tough and didn’t know what to say - or worried you might come across the wrong way? You’re not alone. Many of us can think back to times when we wished we had spoken up more for ourselves or for a friend, but hesitation or discomfort got in the way.
That’s why we’re coming together on Tuesday, 10/07 for an evening of fun games, laughter, and real conversation. This is a chance to connect, share, and practice simple ways we can better support our friends, our community, and ourselves—while enjoying a night of connection and care.
Workshop is free, dinner & childcare provided.
