The Durango Creative District is thrilled to present our next exhibition in the Incubator for Emerging Artist Series: “Rigamarole,” featuring works by Megan Ronquillo and Felix Roberts.
“Rigamarole” is a lengthy process that seems tedious or foolish. It can also be defined as “a rambling of sorts of a story deemed unnecessary.”
Both recent graduates of Fort Lewis College, Ronquillo and Roberts navigate the shifts from academia to full-time work and “adulthood” while preserving their artistic selves. This exhibition reflects the prioritization of presence and personality amidst the tedium of professionalism. While Megan’s work often pulls from her emotional life on a day-to-day basis and abstractions of real life moments, Felix’s work stems from an unbridled and wildly creative imagination that can’t be stopped. Together, they often find themselves creating settings that don’t quite abide by the rules of natural order. Their works display a revolt against the feelings of monotony, and resemble a dichotomy of angst and pure joy. This blend of emotions and otherworldliness co-exist within this gallery setting to bring you, dearest viewer of art, our greatest collection of work yet: Rigamarole!
