Durango, CO – Animas River Days 2014 kicks off with party celebrating the best paddling films of the year at the Smiley Building Theater on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 6:30 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm for yummy food by Zia Taqueria, beverages by Ska Brewing and Zuber Fizz). Films this year are sure to appeal to boaters and non-paddlers alike, with a wide diversity of topics matching the theme "Celebrate Local Wild Rivers" A series of local interest films on Stand-Up Paddling, local creeking, The Durango Whitewater Park, Dolores fisheries, and a sampling of the best films from around the country. These include an award winning short film about canoe paddling with kids, Laird Hamilton showing off SUP tricks, two fantastic short films on the Grand Canyon, and a short recap of last September’s floods in Lyons, CO. Feature films travel further afield, capturing storied expeditions to the Bashkaus River in Siberia, and a French expedition to Nepal. Tickets: $10 in advance; $12 at the door.
