La Plata County staff will hold a public meeting on the La Plata County 2015 Budget at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in the Anasazi Room at the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 E. 2nd Avenue in Durango. At this meeting, staff will give a presentation regarding the current financial position of the County and the direction the County is heading in creating a budget for 2015 that supports the needs of our community. After the presentation, the public will have the opportunity to provide input in the development of the 2015 Budget. “Our property tax revenues have declined by approximately $15 million since 2010,” said Joe Kerby, La Plata County Manager. “Although we are optimistic about our revenues increasing in 2015, it does not come close to offsetting the significant decrease in property taxes we have experienced over the last four years. We are formulating our budget with thoughts of minimizing our operating expenses and ensuring that all our resources are strategically aligned with the goals as set forth by the Board of County Commissioners.” Citizens are welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting.
