The “Firkin in the Rye” firkin cask will be tapped at 3 p.m. “We have just tapped the ‘Wanna Git Rye’ craft beer at the brewpub, and wanted to feature that beer, so we took the opportunity to use it as the base for the ‘Firkin in the Rye’ firkin,” said Steamworks Brewer and Certified Cicerone® Spencer Roper, describing the Wanna Git Rye as a light brown ale that uses rye malt in the mash. “We've found the rye lends a nice dry finish to the beer. It is also a fairly hoppy beer with generous hop additions for both flavor and aroma.” “For the firkin, the beer was re-fermented with oak spirals soaked in Bullet rye whiskey and sweet cherry puree,” said Steamworks Brew Master and Certified Cicerone® Ken Martin. “This creates the tweak on the classic Manhattan, with the hops representing the bitters.”
