DESCRIPTION
In the spirit of Civil Rights and MLK day, on January 19, please come join the Southwest Center for Independence (Durango) in a celebration of social justice for people with disabilities. The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that helps people w/disabilities live well in our community, is having events throughout the day starting at 9am; Waddie Welcome will ignite conversations about community, empowerment, & friendship. At 11am, bring a dish to share and join us for a special meet, greet & eat with the staff and learn about the mission and activities of the SW Center for Independence. In the afternoon, we will have a history or origins of the disability rights movement as well learning about deinstitutionalization for people with disabilities and the start of ADAPT, a grassroots national disability rights group.
