6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College hosts Dr. Anna Nogar, a Hispanic southwest studies scholar from the University of New Mexico on Monday, March 9th, at 6:00 pm in the Center’s Lyceum. Dr. Nogar will give a presentation titled, “How do you solve a problem like Maria? The legendary travels and lost writings of Sor MarÃa de Jesús de Ãgreda.†This event is free and open to the public.
Nogar is an assistant professor at UNM and the author of several forthcoming books, including a work featuring the main figure of this talk. Sor MarÃa de Jesús de Ãgreda was the subject of early colonial legends of bilocation between Sor MarÃa’s home convent in Spain and the Southwest borderlands that then were the northern reaches of New Spain, or colonial Mexico. Early Franciscan documents attest to the persistence of the legend of Sor MarÃa, and Dr. Nogar will explore these and other sources from her research into this topic.
