DESCRIPTION
The Center of Southwest Studies hosts Yvonne Bilinski, Director of the Fort Lewis College Native American Center, who will give a presentation titled, “Native Education at Fort Lewis: From the Early Days to Now.” This event is free and open to the public. Ms. Bilinski’s talk will examine how Native students were educated during the boarding school days and juxtaposes it against the creation and development of Fort Lewis College’s Native American Tuition Waiver which is supported by the State of Colorado. Interwoven are personal experiences that shaped some Navajo education programs. These personal stories help to understand the issues that continue to surround the efforts of Fort Lewis College administration and cooperating state leaders to secure federal financial support for a portion of the tuition waiver.
