"Supplying Light: The Western Colorado Power Company in the San Juan Mountains"

Mon, May 11, 2015
7:00 PM - 12:00 AM
This event has ended

DESCRIPTION
This rescheduled event is a lecture by the Center's doctoral fellow, Sara Porterfield. The Western Colorado Power Company collection held in the archives of the Center of Southwest Studies documents nearly one hundred years of the history of rural electrification in southwest Colorado. The collection represents an important way in which people interact with the environment: how humans use natural materials--water, timber, minerals, etc.--as resources. In this talk, Ms. Porterfield will discuss her experience over the past academic year of organizing part of the Western Colorado Power Company collection and her observations on how the development of this region's electrical power infrastructure illustrates the complicated relationship between the human and natural worlds. This event will be live streamed on the web, check the event listing on the Center's website.
