Tue, January 12, 2016
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
“Colorado Experience,†a weekly program broadcast on Rocky Mountain PBS, is coming to southwest Colorado in January to introduce viewers and Rocky Mountain PBS fans to the “Ladies of the Mines.â€
Based on the real-life stories of three women who lived in Colorado mining camps at the end of the 19th century, the 30-minute documentary tells of their challenges with “high altitude, groceries delivered by mule train, pack rats and spoiled Thanksgiving turkeys.†The idea for this episode was submitted by local residents and viewers Rudy and Andie Davison and was chosen through a Rocky Mountain PBS “viewer’s choice†contest soliciting story lines. The Davisons will be in attendance.
The first screening will take place Jan. 12 in the Vallecito Room at Fort Lewis College in partnership with the Center for Southwest Studies, the Animas Museum and the San Juan Basin Archeological Society. The second screening will be Jan. 13 at the Sheridan Opera House in partnership with the Telluride Historical Museum. Both screenings begin at 6pm with a reception and the film starts at 6:30pm. The screenings will be followed by a community conversation with the producers and experts.
