The TIU4TYLER Skate Competition began in May of 2008 in Durango, Co. This skate comp is dedicated to the memory of my son Tyler Valencia, an avid skateboarder in the town of Durango. Tyler and his friends lobbied for the expansion of the Durango Skate park and successfully won. Unfortunately and tragically,Tyler was killed in a car accident just months before the new park opened. The park was dedicated to Tyler in May of 2007 when it opened and there is a bench there with a plaque reading "skate his dream". It has been my passion and the passion of Tylers family to support skateboarding, erase stereotypes and provide a positive skating outlet for all skateboarders who love the sport. Tyler was robbed of his dream to skate all too soon but we believe the next best thing is to skate for him. The skate comp is now cosponsored by the Boarding Haus and the City of Durango and has grown bigger than we ever dreamed. Skaters from all over the state of Colorado come to skate Tyler's dream and win prizes that they couldn't afford to buy on their own.
