Joseph Magnano Solo Art Show (Tuesday - Sunday)

These Places Untold, Joseph's new work, are quite unique and being exhibited in Durango for the first time. Every These Places Untold painting begins as scraps fabric that are playfully laid out and sewn together into quilted collages. Each quilt becomes a reference for the painting and are on display for viewing at the gallery. These Places Untold are colorful acrylic paintings that bring to life a curious world of mystery.   Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11am-6pm

San Juan Basin Archaeological Society meeting and presentation
7:00pm / Fort Lewis Collage Lyceum and Zoom
The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society invites the public to a presentation in the Lyceum at the Center of Southwest Studies and on Zoom on Wednesday, February 14 at 7:00 pm. At 6:30 we will have social time, then after a brief business meeting, Dr. Bonnie Clark, Curator for Archaeology of the University of Denver Museum of Anthropology, will present "Finding Solace in the Soil: The Archaeology of Gardens and Gardeners at Colorado's Japanese American Incarceration Camp.'. For log-in information go to SJBAS.ORG.    During World War II, Americans of Japanese ancestry were removed from their homes and placed into confinement camps throughout the western US. This presentation overviews the methods and results of six seasons of landscape archaeology at one of those sites—Amache—located in southeastern Colorado. The site contains an incredibly well-preserved record of how the people incarcerated there transformed a hostile landscape through strategy and skill. By integrating a program of historical research, community engagement, and intensive garden archaeology, the University of Denver Amache project is expanding the view of what incarceree gardens are, how they were created, and their import, both to those who made them and us today.   Dr. Bonnie Clark is committed to using tangible history - objects, sites, and landscape - to broaden understanding of our diverse past. She began her career as a professional archaeologist and now serves as Professor in the Anthropology Dept. at the U of Denver (DU), as well as the Curator for Archaeology of the DU Museum of Anthropology. She is the author or editor of numerous publications including "Finding Solace in Soil: An Archaeology of Gardens and Gardeners at Amache:" and "On the Edge of Purgatory: An Archaeology of Place in Hispanic Colorado." Dr. Clark leads the DU Amache Project, a community collaboration committee to researching, preserving and interpreting the physical history of Amache, Colorado's WWII -era Japanese American internment camp. That work has been highlighted in numerous venues, including Archeology and American Archaeology magazines. In 2011, Dr. Clark's work was recognized by her peers with DU's Teacher/Scholar of the year award.

SOLD OUT Late Night Radio: Pocket Full of Dreams Tour w/ parkbreezy - Motifv
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
$22 / $25 / 21+   Doors 7:00pm / Show 8:00pm   Alex Medellin aka Late Night Radio is a Denver-based musician, producer, and pillar of the Colorado electronic music scene. His unique hybrid electronic sound is inspired by classic soul and third coast hip-hop.   "The easiest way to describe my music is, 'Electronic music for people who don't really like electronic music'," Alex explains. "There's hip-hop bass and beats, which keep it relevant. However, I'm taking it into new territory."   It's also a style he's been working towards perfecting for nearly a decade. The Houston native bounced from New Orleans to Austin to Temecula and eventually Big Bear. During 2011, he started composing music for online videos and commercials before relocating to Colorado and going full-time in 2014. Along the way, he released a series of fan favorite albums—Concrete College [2012], Far Into the Night [2013], Soap Box [2014], Reflective Tangents [2016], Sunday [2018], Further Into the Night [2019], plus two collaborative albums with Canadian rapper Def3, Small World [2017] and Weddings & Funerals [2021]. In 2022, Late Night Radio released the bass EP Back Around on Philos Records and the 10th installment of his Vinyl Restoration series.    2023 has started off with several collaborations - "Hold On" with Motifv, a remix of Maddy O'Neal's "Climb On", "Blindfold Yourself" and "Storm Clouds Rising" on Daily Bread's new LP Invisible Cinema, "Emerald City" with Michal Menert, and now a new full-length album on the way - Pocket Full of Dreams, out October 20th on Philos Records.   In the end, the moniker Late Night Radio reflects the vibrant versatility at the heart of the sound. "At 3AM, DJs will play whatever they want on the radio," he leaves off. "That's what I'm doing. It's a very eclectic mix. It's who I am."   https://www.facebook.com/l8nightradio/  https://lnrtunes.com/

During this program we will be exploring our community in Durango and how we can give back as creatives. On December 16th they will be focusing on the art of cooking as we learn about food handling safety, how to cook meals and distribute them to the community as a fun creative pop up. On January 20th they will be learning a plethora of art skills from a variety of different guest instructors. In February we will take some of those skills in January to paint a Mural to help beautify our community. For our last two sessions in March and April we will focus on finding the value in another man's trash as we travel down the river trail finding materials to turn into found object sculptures. During these trips we will explore the local art and learn how it helps make a difference in our society.   During each session the students will also have the option of taking a creative break to learn circus skills so they can exercise both their body and minds.   This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, learn valuable life skills all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come.   For questions, please email Mr. B, at ben@durangoarts.org. Scholarships are available. BART offers young people, ages 11 to 17, regardless of expression or identity, the opportunity to experience art, leadership and art-based opportunities.

Bayfield Death Cafe
1:00pm / Pine River Library Community Room
Pine River Library is one of many groups in 79 countries across the world that host Death Cafés. A Death Cafe is a time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee, and discuss death openly and honestly. The aim is to increase awareness about death in order to help people make the most of their (finite) lives. There is never an intention of leading participants to any conclusion, product or course of action. A Death Café is not a bereavement support or grief counseling setting, nor is it a place to give people information about death and dying. It is not for people who, for whatever reason, are unwilling to discuss the subject of death comfortably and openly. Interesting conversations are guaranteed! These events are facilitated by Lola Montano, a registered nurse who is pursuing her hospice certification and is interested in becoming a death doula.    Join us every third Tuesday of the month from 1-2:30 pm.

Author Event & Book Signing with Maureen Fallon-Cyr "Reimagining Sucess"
6:00pm / Maria's Bookshop
Everyone longs for a successful and fulfilling life. Yet many of us may experience success only in certain areas of our life. For instance, we may do well at work yet struggle in our home life. We may enjoy certain comforts yet suffer from depression, anxiety, or addictions. How can we experience success and well-being across our life? We can learn to clear the blocks and fears that are holding us in unhealthy patterns. Bringing the power of mindfulness and psychology together, we can locate the roots of our limiting patterns to heal them, clearing the way for us to reconnect with our own Essence, a wellspring of inner composure and wisdom that serves as our inner compass, guiding us to choices and actions that create a happy, fulfilling life. When we are in connection with our Essence, we reclaim the aliveness, confidence and freedom we experienced as young children, inspired to live as we are meant to live.   About Maureen  Maureen is a is a graduate of Smith College School for Social Work and a certified Hakomi Therapist. For more than 30 years, she has offered mindfulness-based psychotherapy to people of all ages, specializing in trauma, somatic release, and depth psychology.   Maureen also served on the teaching council of the Durango Dharma Center for eight years, teaching classes in meditation, mindful parenting, mindfulness 12-Step healing, and compassionate living.   Together with her husband, Mark, they have been developing True Success For All, a program that brings new perspectives on successful living, empowering us to realize our true potential.    When Maureen and Mark are not teaching True Success, they enjoy playing in the Colorado mountains with their family and friends.

Join us every fourth Monday of the month from 4-5:30 pm.

AJ Lee and Blue Summit with La La Bones
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
21+ / $20 / $25   AJ Lee and Blue Summit made their first appearance in Santa Cruz in 2015. Led by singer, songwriter, and mandolinist, AJ Lee, the bluegrass band has performed all over the world, but finds home in California's Bay Area.   The latest full length project, I'll Come Back, debuted August 2021 - with national touring in support of the record ongoing. Although falling loosely under the bluegrass label, AJLBS generally plays sans banjo, with Sullivan Tuttle and Scott Gates on steel stringed acoustic guitars, AJ on mandolin, Jan Purat on fiddle, and Chad Bowen on upright bass - a configuration effectively used to create unique space and texture in the arrangements not as commonly found in the music of their peers. Drawing from influences such as country, soul, swing, rock, and jam music, the band uses the lens of bluegrass as a vessel through which to express and explore the thread that binds and unifies all great music.   "AJ Lee & Blue Summit are pure, beautiful American music. Soaring harmonies, top notch picking and strumming as well as a healthy respect and reverence for the classic country, bluegrass and folk music of the past all add up to a band who are masters of the genre. That's not to say that AJ Lee & Blue Summit are antiquated in anyway. While the band tips a hat to the American masters of the past, their sound is modern and thoroughly of today. The band are great torch bearers of the music that helped build America. "   -Eric Oblander - Musician, Producer of Rise Up on BCAN (Buckeye Community Arts network)   La La Bones is a creative bluegrass band featuring original compositions and high energy performances. Rooted in Durango, the band has played throughout Colorado at local venues, festivals, and private events. At first glance, La La Bones is reminiscent of a traditional bluegrass band, passing around breaks and harmonizing melodies. With a closer look, listeners can see how the band draws inspiration from a myriad of musical genres, ranging from punk, pop, to bluegrass. Listeners can also enjoy the songwriting and vocal skills of all band members, as each individual brings original music to the table. La La Bones recorded their first self-titled album in 2016, an 11-track record of originals. In 2023, the band recorded their second album, Bones Hit the Ground. La La Bones is Kyle Siesser on guitar, Tommy Frederico on banjo, Kathy Hilimire on fiddle, and Scott Roberts on mandolin.
