With their acoustic string-band lineup of guitar, viola, and upright bass given flight by ethereal, vocal harmonies that float like a dream, the Sweet Lillies' music has an old-time soul with a forward-looking eye.    Since forming in 2013 the Sweet Lillies have released three albums: 2016's self-titled release, and 2018's A Lighter Hue produced by Leftover Salmon's Vince Herman. Their latest album, Common Ground, produced by Railroad Earth's Tim Carbone, was released last year.

9:00am / Fort Lewis College in the Ballroom
Instead of college students, on March 8th from 8:45AM-1:45PM in the Ballroom of Fort Lewis College, middle and high school students will be running their own science conference called the San Juan Resilience Youth Summit. This entirely youth led event highlights and supports regional science research and is supported by the placed-based, environmental nonprofit, Mountain Studies Institute.   First started in 2019, the San Juan Resilience Youth Summit (SJRYS) is modeled after professional scientific research summits and geared specifically for middle and high school students in San Juan Mountain communities. It is a free, "science fair-like" conversational gathering for students to come together and share their projects on any environmental topic that they choose to investigate. Students are provided an opportunity to share their work with, and learn from, an authentic audience of peers, natural resource professionals, and community leaders.    In 2022, the Summit had a smashing success with 122 people, which includes teachers and volunteers. This year, MSI expects a similar turnout. There's still room for contributions from interested students, whether that be formal presentations, posters, discussions, activities, or any other creative idea. MSI encourages students to use their imagination in how they present their work. The deadline for proposals and registration is March 2nd.   Brookelynn Pitsch is the student facilitator liaison for the 2023 SJRYS and is available to support students and teachers who are interested in attending.    Visit www.mountainstudies.org/sjrys for registration and tools to aid brainstorming for project options and style guidelines. If you're not in middle school or high school and still want to get involved, MSI is actively looking for volunteers. Please reach out to Brooke at brooke@mountainstudies.org

Ott. , The Monogahela, Smiley Coyote
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
Animas City Theatre Presents Ott. with special guest The Monogahela, & Smiley Coyote HSD Subs Provided by Unify Mountain Soundz Tuesday March 7th, 2023 $40 / 21+ Tickets available online at www.animascitytheatre.com , Animas Trading Company, and at the Door night of show. Ott was doomed to be a teenager in the cultural wasteland that was the mid-1980’s provincial England. After a brief period wandering aimlessly through the hairsprayed deserts of New Romanticism and poodle-rock he found refuge in the warm, inviting sounds of Scientist, King Tubby, LKJ, and Prince Far-I and the effortless grace of European experimentalists Neu! and Kraftwerk. Here he stayed until he felt it was safe to pop his head up again. The end of the 1980’s brought with it a cultural and musical revolution and Ott headed to London to immerse himself in the new energy. Initially unimpressed by the frantic, unmusical clatterings of acid house and “rave” he discovered a new wave of artists who apparently shared his love of organic dub and pristine electronics. Artists such as The Orb, Dub Syndicate, FSOL and African Head Charge. These were people who were unafraid to combine bass-heavy rhythm, abstract soundscape and timeless melody into a huge, ever-shifting sonic universe which reflected perfectly the spirit of hope and positivity which prevailed. It was at this point that Ott found his first work as an engineer in several studios around North London. Working obsessively, 18 hours a day, seven days a week for the next ten years, Ott began developing the skills which would see him go on to work with many of those who created the sounds which inspired him in the first place – Brian Eno, The Orb, Youth, African Head Charge, Steve Hillage, and On-U-Sound. After spending the 1990’s freelancing around London as a studio engineer and producer, Ott celebrated the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st by giving it all up and moving to a remote cottage in South West England to be alone with his cats and his studio. With a vague plan to create the perfect soundtrack to an outdoor English festival he embarked on a series of sonic experiments, drawing heavily on the classic dub sounds from Jamaica and hypnotic electronic pulse from Germany which had provided such a refuge during the 1980’s. A period of intense creativity followed, during which a great many tracks were created and then stashed away on tapes, seemingly never to see the light of day. The Monogahela is an electronic music composer and performer based out of Durango, CO, USA. The Formed in 2014 by Nathan Williams, producing multi-genre bass and electronic music in a range of tempos, often blending eclectic organics with cosmic soundscapes. He has shared the stage with notable acts such as Ott, Illenium, Phutureprimitive, Said the Sky, Govinda, among others. Smiley Coyote dwells in the southwest where the desert meets the mountains. Music has been streaming through his veins since birth.

FLC Symphonic Band Love and Loss
7:00pm / Community Concert Hall at FLC
This program centers around themes of loss, love, and betrayal. We'll open with a bacchanalian dance that represents the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, which lead to the destruction of Pompeii. We'll follow that with an uncommon march dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt after he lost his son during World War I, and we'll conclude our program with the well loved First Suite in E-flat by Gustav Holst. With works from Ticheli, Sousa, Dunton, and more, this program is sure to be an emotional journey.   This performance is FREE for current FLC Students and guests who are 18 & under.   FLC students must present their current College ID at the venue door to gain entrance. (1 seat per FLC ID)
SOLD OUT An Evening with Keller Williams
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
Virginian, Keller Williams, released his first album in 1994, FREEK, and has since given each of his albums a single syllable title: BUZZ, SPUN, BREATHE, LOOP, LAUGH, HOME, DANCE, STAGE, GRASS, DREAM, TWELVE, LIVE, ODD, THIEF, KIDS, BASS, PICK, FUNK, VAPE, SYNC, RAW, SANS, ADD, SPEED and CELL. Each title serves as a concise summation of the concept guiding each project. Keller's albums reflect his pursuit to create music that sounds like nothing else. Un-beholden to conventionalism, he seamlessly crosses genre boundaries. The end product is music that encompasses rock, jazz, funk and bluegrass, and always keeps the audience on their feet. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. For most of his career he has performed solo. His stage shows are rooted around Keller singing his compositions and choice cover songs, while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, bass, guitar synthesizer and drum samples; a technique called live phrase sampling or "looping". The end result often leans toward a hybrid of alternative folk and groovy electronica, a genre Keller jokingly calls "acoustic dance music" or ADM." Keller's constant evolution has led to numerous band projects as well; Keller & The Keels, Grateful Grass, KWahtro, Keller and the Travelin' McCourys, Grateful Gospel and More Than A Little to name a few. Keller can be found playing clubs and festivals around the U.S. with these projects throughout the year.    http://www.KellerWilliams.net  https://www.facebook.com/kellerwilliams   http://www.youtube.com/kellerwilliamsmusic   https://www.instagram.com/kellerwilliams/   https://twitter.com/kellermusician   https://open.spotify.com/artist/5de5W8sgXIMq9dgMR0Wml0?si=I1Q8-PofTxuTSQYc-3Xg9Q

High Country Hustle with special guest Morsel
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
21+ / $17 / $20  High Country Hustle brings big smiles and foot-stomping good times to venues and festivals across the United States. Formed in 2017, this four-piece bluegrass band delivers high-energy shows that are sure to get you moving. Their style combines unique songwriting with jam sensibilities that have propelled the band onto premier stages such as the Mishawaka and Fox Theatre. They have hustled their way onto festival lineups—like Rhythms on the Rio, Beanstalk, and Pagosa Folk 'N Bluegrass—sharing the stage with acts like Kitchen Dwellers, Trout Steak Revival, and Tim O'Brien. In 2022, High Country Hustle released its sophomore album "Weather the Storm," produced by Jake Simpson of The Lil Smokies   Morsel  "Morsel is a five-piece jamgrass band hailing from Denver, CO that mixes classic bluegrass sensibilities nuanced with a more traditional rock edge, resting in a warm balance of old-school string dusting and nu-school improvisation. Since forming in CU Boulder back in 2016, the band has cultivated a robust following throughout the Front Range, born from sets at pubs and breweries and growing exponentially to headline shows at legendary venues, such as The Boulder Theater and The Fox Theater, and to share the stage with nationally touring artists, such as Yonder Mountain String Band, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Molly Tuttle, the Kitchen Dwellers, and many more. Morsel's debut self-titled studio album (produced by Chris Pandolfi of the Infamous Stringdusters) released in September of 2021 illustrates the band's powerful songwriting that is its true soul: a cornucopia of catchy hooks, shimmering melodies, and thoughtful lyrics all delivered in a package that will make the most ardent bluegrass skeptic a believer."

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band with special guest Cousin Curtiss
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
$20/ 21+   Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band  NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The latest album from Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band was written by candlelight and then recorded using the best technology available . . . in the 1950s.   But listeners won't find another album as relevant, electrifying and timely as Dance Songs for Hard Times.   Dance Songs for Hard Times conveys the hopes and fears of pandemic living. Rev. Peyton, the Big Damn Band's vocalist and world-class fingerstyle guitarist, details bleak financial challenges on the songs "Ways and Means" and "Dirty Hustlin'." He pines for in-person reunions with loved ones on "No Tellin' When," and he pleads for celestial relief on the album-closing "Come Down Angels."   Far from a depressing listen, Dance Songs lives up to its name by delivering action-packed riffs and rhythms across 11 songs. The country blues trio that won over crowds on more than one Warped Tour knows how to make an audience move.   "I like songs that sound happy but are actually very sad," Peyton says. "I don't know why it is, but I just do."   Of course, the greatest front-porch blues band in the world found itself sidelined from a relentless touring schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic. Peyton says he was surprised when his mind and soul unleashed a batch of new songs in March and April of 2020.   "I think it was the stress of everything," he says. "At the time, we were watching everything we know crash down. I didn't know what was going to happen with our career, with our house, with food, with anything."   Cousin Curtiss  Cousin Curtiss brings to the stage a fiery dynamic rarely seen by a solo act and now, with a full band armed and ready with years of live touring and recording experience behind him, the concert performance becomes legendary. Truly. Within the United States and around the world Cousin Curtiss has spread his positive energy and endless smile through his Award Winning Rootstomp music. He describes it as, "playing Blues music but at Bluegrass speeds" or more simply, "like...if Blues and Bluegrass had a baby." Rapid fire guitar. Incendiary harmonica. Thunderous kick.   Cousin Curtiss left a successful teaching career in Alaska in 2015 to pursue music full time and has never looked back. Shortly after committing himself to road life, his life and story was discovered and featured by Business Insider, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Redbull, Fox News, MSNBC, Daily Mail UK, and many more. Years later Cousin Curtiss continues to turn heads wherever he plays solo, with the band, or supporting acts like The Commonheart, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, G Love and Special Sauce, Infamous Stringdusters, The Sweet Lillies, Andy Thorn...

Sarah Shook & The Disarmers with Mightmare
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
21+ / Doors 7pm / Show 8pm  $17/$20   SARAH SHOOK & THE DISARMERS  North Carolina's Sarah Shook sings with a conviction and hard honesty sorely lacking in much of today's Americana landscape. Always passionate, at times profane, Sarah stalks/walks the line between vulnerable and menacing, their voice strong and uneasy, country classic but with contemporary, earthy tension. You can hear in their voice what they've seen; world weary, lessons learned—or not—but always defiant. They level-steady mean what they say. Writing with a blunt urgency—so refreshing these days it's almost startling—Sarah's lyrics are in turn smart, funny, mean, and above all, uncompromising. The Disarmers hit all the sweet spots from Nashville's Lower Broad to Bakersfield and take Sarah's unflinching tales out for some late-night kicks. At times, it's as simple and muscular as Luther Perkins' boom-chicka-boom, or as downtown as Johnny Thunders. The Disarmers keep in the pocket, tight and tough.   The Disarmers line-up is currently Jack Foster on drums, Blake Tallent on guitar, Andrew Lambie on bass, and Nick Larimore on pedal steel.

Author Talk & Book Signing: Shelley Read 'Go As A River'
6:00pm / Maria's Bookshop
Join us as author Shelley Read shares from her debut novel, "Go As A River".   Set amid the beauty and wilderness of the Colorado mountains, an unforgettable and deeply moving story of a young woman who follows her heart. Seventeen-year-old Victoria Nash runs the household on her family's peach farm in the small ranch town of Iola, Colorado--the sole surviving female in a family of troubled men. Wilson Moon is a young drifter with a mysterious past, displaced from his tribal land but determined to live as he chooses. Victoria encounters Wil by chance on a street corner, profoundly altering both of their young lives, unknowingly igniting as much passion as danger. When tragedy strikes, Victoria leaves the only life she has ever known, fleeing into the nearby mountains. Taking shelter in a small hut, she struggles to survive in the wilderness, with no clear notion of what her future will bring. As the seasons change, she also charts the changes in herself, finding in the natural world the strength and meaning that sets her on a quest to regain all that she has lost, even as the Gunnison River rises to submerge her homeland--its ranches, farms, and the beloved peach orchard that has been in her family for generations. Inspired by true events surrounding the destruction of the town of Iola in the 1960s, Go as a River is a story of deeply held love in the midst of hardship and loss, but also of finding courage, resilience, friendship, and, finally, home--where least expected. This stunning debut explores what it means to lead your life as if it were a river--gathering and flowing, finding a way forward even when a river is dammed.   Shelley Read is a fifth generation Coloradoan who lives with her family in the Elk Mountains of the Western Slope. She was a Senior Lecturer at Western Colorado University for nearly three decades, where she taught writing, literature, environmental studies, and Honors, and was a founder of the Environment & Sustainability major and a support program for first-generation and at-risk students. Shelley holds degrees in writing and literary studies from the University of Denver and Temple University's Graduate Program in Creative Writing. She is a regular contributor to Crested Butte Magazine and Gunnison Valley Journal, and has written for the Denver Post and a variety of publications.

On Record including their 2021 release and ninth full length album, The Departure - the band explores their collective life experiences through songwriting and intricate instrumentation. The group's experiences with people and musicians across Africa, Asia, Europe, and The Middle East have shaped the band's world view and broadened the group's direction towards bridging cultural gaps with music, educational programs and workshops. Using traditional American music as a foundation, connecting folk music and cultures the world over, the Prowlers incorporate international elements into their already robust repertoire of unique traditional American music.   Whether performing live or presenting workshops, and wherever they are, the Henhouse Prowlers find and spread the commonality we share as human beings through the universal language of music.   You can feel it at every show.
