The Durango Flea Market is an open-air market open to the public every Sunday from the first weekend of May through the first weekend of November.    We are only closed during Memorial Day weekend and the second Sunday in August during the La Plata County Fair.    We are conveniently located on North Main Avenue in the La Plata County Fairgrounds parking lot. Plenty of free parking for shoppers! You'll find great deals on just about everything under the sun: antiques, housewares, clothing & jewelry, toys, sporting goods, food and who knows what else!

On Tuesday, May 4th, at 11:45 a.m. our eighth and final discussion for 2021 using Zoom will be “The Korean Peninsula.” Moderator Holly Vaughn will present background materials and a film by the Foreign Policy Association, and lead participants in a discussion of the issues.    The public is invited to attend this free Zoom discussion. Get your kids outside with SJMA’s new after-school program, the San Juan Science Ramblers.   Kids, grades 1 – 6, will be led on after school science- based hiking adventures with our amazing education staff and volunteers. The number of kids will be limited to 13 per session. This a great option for kids who love nature and science. Each month will have a theme focused on outdoor exploration and learning.

The art of belly dance traditionally celebrates the beauty and mystique of being a woman. Local dancers strive to share that message through their benefit performances while giving back to their community.    International Shimmy Mob teams will celebrate World Belly Dance Day on Saturday, May 8, to help raise awareness for domestic violence programs globally and locally. The goal is to focus on prevention and lowering the statistics of abuse. For the past 10 years since its inception, there have been 56 participating countries with 1441 teams and 15,453 team members.   The Durango Shimmy Mob team will support Alternative Horizons again this year. All of the 2021 Shimmy Mob performances are free and open to the public. Donations will be gratefully accepted and all proceeds will benefit Alternative Horizons.    Kim Zook, executive director of Alternative Horizons said: “With the help, dedication and hard work of the Shimmy Mob team, Alternative Horizons has continued to provide much-needed advocacy, therapy, educational and support services to victim/survivors of domestic violence in our community.”    This year, the Durango Shimmy Mob team has over 35 registered dancers ranging from novices to professional level. On May 8, Shimmy Mob dance teams from all around the world will be performing the same choreography. In Durango, the Shimmy Mob will be performing a 15-minute show at the following places and times:    10:00, 10:30, 11:00, & 11:30 - Durango Farmers Market  12:00 - D&SNGR Train Station  1:00 - Durango Rug Company  2:00 - Main Mall  3:00 - Durango Craft Spirits  4:00 - Primi Pasta & Wine Bar   “There are truly no words to adequately express Alternative Horizon’s gratitude for the Shimmy Mob’s exceptionally generous support of its domestic violence services and ongoing commitment to our mission of making our community a safer place,” said Zook.    Alternative Horizons is a grassroots organization that began in 1978. The Durango Flea Market is an open-air market open to the public every Sunday from the first weekend of May through the first weekend of November.    We are only closed during Memorial Day weekend and the second Sunday in August during the La Plata County Fair.    We are conveniently located on North Main Avenue in the La Plata County Fairgrounds parking lot. Plenty of free parking for shoppers! You'll find great deals on just about everything under the sun: antiques, housewares, clothing & jewelry, toys, sporting goods, food and who knows what else!

ASA is a Durango-based non-profit providing outdoor, sport and recreational experiences for people with disabilities. Daily program offerings include whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, camping, rock climbing, and more. Our Ladies Night is an excellent avenue to foster new relationships and network within our 4 Corners Community. Each month we will have a new and exciting exercise that will have you working with our horses through obstacles and problem-solving exercises that will build on the last, promoting learning, self-discovery and a unique ‘girls’ night’ horse experience you won’t forget!

Embark on an Incredible Journey Through the San Juan Mountains!   For a truly unforgettable step back in time, enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear riding 3 1/2 hours each way on this steam train plus spend 2 hours in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and libations that Silverton offers. We’ve been in continuous operation running train excursions on this 45-mile spur of the Denver & Rio Grande rail line since 1882. Much of the scenery remains unchanged since then. There’s no cell service or Wi-Fi through much of the terrain so you’ll be unplugged from the modern world. Soak in the views, listen as the steam whistle echoes through the canyon, hear the vintage locomotive work to pull the train up the grades. Too much screen time? Get your kids outside with SJMA’s new after-school program, the San Juan Science Ramblers.   Kids, grades 1 – 6, will be led on after school science- based hiking adventures with our amazing education staff and volunteers. The number of kids will be limited to 13 per session. This a great option for kids who love nature and science. Each month will have a theme focused on outdoor exploration and learning.

Music in the Mountains is pleased to announce that preparations are underway for their 35th Anniversary Season this July 11 – August 1, 2021.    Music in the Mountains will be offering the annual volunteer training in a choice of in-person or virtual platforms. Downtown Durango is saturated with paranormal activity. You don’t need to walk far to get your fill of ghost stories. Main Avenue was once home to a plethora of saloons, dance halls, brothels, and gambling halls. It was the stomping ground for outlaws, gamblers, prostitutes, miners, and railroad workers. Late night escapades, fueled by whiskey, led to many tragic events resulting in the ghosts that wander the streets today.   Our 90-minute Hauntings & History Ghost Tour will not disappoint. We will meet outside of Hermosa Cafe (738 Main Ave) at dusk. Come early and order a drink from their bar to bring to our first stop. We will be in one of the oldest basements downtown and (spoiler alert!) it's haunted! We have conducted paranormal investigations in the location and have captured quite a bit of evidence. We only have temporary access to this location so don't miss out!!!    Wherever we tread on Main Avenue you will hear tales of apparitions who refuse to leave the places they inhabited in life. Because of the tight sidewalks downtown and Covid guidelines we cap our tours at 10 people. Your fully vaccinated guide will not be wearing a mask while outside in order for guests to better hear the information. We do require our groups to wear their masks in order to ensure safety in the case that not everyone is vaccinated.

Enjoy extended museum hours from 9:30am-7:30pm while we celebrate bikes and science with The Powerhouse's newest traveling exhibit GEAR UP: The Science of Bikes, sponsored by Carver Brewing.    Any child that rides to The Powerhouse on their bike wins a prize. A different virtual workout every time, this energizing class consists of aerobic intervals to improve cardiovascular endurance combined with strength training intervals, core and balance work.
