The Durango Farmers Market is a venue for local agriculturalists, ranchers and artisans to meet and share their harvest and talents with the Durango community. At our market you have the opportunity to meet face to face with the producers and learn more about their growing methods. Vendors post their farming practices at their booth and most follow organic growing methods.   Our market also offers hot ready to eat food from local vendors, value added foods such as jams, jellies and sauces and local artisans who make high-quality handcrafted items. All vendors must produce their goods within our five-county radius ensuring fresh produce and locally made goods. We also have live music performances each weekend as well as community information booths for non-profits and groups that promote our market values of local, sustainable and healthy living.

Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton. There will be one Silverton Diesel Train departing daily at 8:15 AM from May 20th - August 13th.

Take a tour through the decorated storefronts of Downtown Durango in search of clues to win the 4th of July Scavenger Hunt!   All that glitters is not gold - in honor of our La Plata Mountains, searchers are hunting for silver!    The Scavenger Hunt starts at 10:00 am on Friday, June 30 and ends at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, July 4. Participants pick up a Scavenger Hunt map at any decorated storefront and proceed to follow the clues.   Participants who think they have solved the final riddle to find the silver can hand in their completed cards at the Parade Judges station at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, July 4.    A winner will be picked at random from qualifying entries and announced at the Street Party at the Transit Center.   Part of a July 4th Celebration!

Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton. There will be up to three steam departures depending on the date. The Silverton Steam Train departs daily at 9:00AM 5/6/23-10/28/23, 8:15AM 8/14/23-10/14/23, and 9:45AM 9/1/23-10/14/23

Experience the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's iconic canyon views along the Highline on our shortest excursion offered. This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Pre-order boxed lunches are also available.   The train will depart from the Durango Depot at 9:45 AM every day and return to Durango at 3 PM from May 26th - May 29th and June 7th - August 13th.

Visit us at The Powerhouse to check out our summertime traveling exhibit, "Pterosaurs: Ancient Rulers of the Skies", on display May 27th-September 17th.    This exhibit explores the majesty and wonder of a group of flying reptiles that lived between the Late Triassic through the Late Cretaceous Periods (228 to 66 million years ago) of the Mesozoic Era. Ideal for learners of all ages; families and individuals can learn about these fascinating and visually striking creatures in a variety of ways.    This exhibit features fossil replicas mixed with eight digital interactive stations showcasing the evolution, diversity, and lifestyle of this intriguing group of species.    The Powerhouse is open to the public 7 days a week 9:30am-3:30pm.

For those seeking the highlight reel of Durango’s early history, beginning in 1881, through the lens of the Historic Downtown Durango District (Main Avenue). This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

Downtown Durango is saturated with paranormal activity. You don’t need to walk far to get your fill of ghost stories. Main Avenue was once home to a plethora of saloons, dance halls, brothels, and gambling halls. It was the stomping ground for outlaws, gamblers, prostitutes, miners, and railroad workers. Late night escapades, fueled by whiskey, led to many tragic events resulting in the ghosts that wander the streets today.   Our 90-minute Hauntings & History Ghost Tour will not disappoint. We will meet in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train Depot (479 Main Ave) at dusk. Midway through the tour we will enter one of the best haunted locations that Downtown Durango has to offer! We are the only ghost tour that takes people INSIDE of a location! Wherever we tread on Main Avenue you will hear tales of apparitions who refuse to leave the places they inhabited in life. VFW Post 4031 is hosting a Independence Day holiday Ice Social! This Ice social is being held in conjunction with the Southwest Civic Winds Concert in Rotary Park. Ice Cream, of course, along with Hot Dogs, Chips and sodas will be served.   Part of a July 4th Celebration!

The Civic Winds Jazz Orchestra will perform live at a special evening concert!    Beginning at 6:30pm, the concert will be held at the gazebo in Rotary Park. The band will perform music from the "Big Band Era" to modern day settings of our true American art form. The regular practice of Tai Chi forms can help to improve balance, coordination, focus and much more. Tai Chi is composed of various "postures" strung together into a continuous form. Each part of the form has meaning and value. In this class we begin with warm ups exercises to prepare the body for movement. We then practice individual parts of the form as well as doing exercises to improve our balance. Once learned, we practice the whole form together and then go deeper into the principles that make Tai Chi so unique and effective for improving and maintaining good health. Denise Lane is a certified Tai Chi instructor, who has been practicing Tai Chi since the 1990's.

The Four Corners Gem and Mineral Club Club offers an exciting lineup of Gem Show Classes July 6 to 9. This is a great opportunity to learn a wide range of lapidary and metalsmith skills. Classes are small, and with both a skilled instructor and an assistant, you can expect plenty of personal attention. Some classes sell out quickly so register early at www.durangorocks.org/gemshowclasses.    These classes as well as the Club's weekend workshops are eligible for scholarship assistance from the City of Durango. If you want to learn stone polishing or metalsmith skills, this is do-not-miss opportunity.

At Wild Soul's Nature Adventure Day Camp, kids will be immersed in the natural world, growing their awareness of the plants, animals, and environment and experience what it is like to be a participant in nature, not simply a visitor. We will spend most of our days in like-age groups, moving on the land, playing, learning, and exploring. We will track animals, following their signs to the special places that most people never see. We will learn some reliable and nutritious edible & medicinal plants, as well as learn to identify the few plants that are very important to avoid. We will learn the basics of wilderness survival, expanding our awareness of hazards, as well as discussing how to stay safe if you have to spend a night or two out on the land. And, we will get to experience how humans live in community in nature - by trying it out together!

DYT JR Company members (3rd-5th grade) will be able to hone their performance skills with this 4-week musical theatre camp. JR Company members will spend the days working on theatre skills such as voice and movement techniques, terminology, character development, and memorization techniques all using stage games and theatre exercises. Surreal, things that look real but cannot possibly be. Using a variety of different art mediums, techniques and concepts, Mr B will teach the mysteries of Surreal Art.   Scholarships Available!

Be exposed to a variety of tips, tricks, and techniques with acrylic and watercolor painting. Students will learn color theory, atmospheric perspective, glazing, light and shodow and much more. Participants pick up a Scavenger Hunt map at any decorated storefront and proceed to follow the clues.   Participants who think they have solved the final riddle to find the silver can hand in their completed cards at the Parade Judges station at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, July 4.    A winner will be picked at random from qualifying entries and announced at the Street Party at the Transit Center.

The Durango Parks and Recreation Department invites everyone to participate in this FREE and festive race.   The race begins at 9:00 am at Rotary Park. The Drone Show by Pixis Drones will light up the evening skies with Durango, La Plata County and Patriotic images. This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

Join us on July 6th at 11:00 AM at Cottonwood Park in Durango to hear a performance by our String Ensemble.   Cottonwood Park is located next to Animas Valley Elementary (373 Hermosa Meadows Rd in Durango). This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. For those seeking the highlight reel of Durango’s early history, beginning in 1881, through the lens of the Historic Downtown Durango District (Main Avenue). This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. The ArtRoom Collective First Friday Art Crawl is July 7, from 4pm - 7pm at the Smiley Building. Sharon grew up in Longmont, Colorado, and has lived in Durango for the last 30 years. After receiving a BFA degree from Fort Lewis College, Sharon emphasized fiber art of weaving large tapestries and designing sweaters, and painted watercolors to journal her white water rafting trips and camping experiences. But after joining the local plein air painting group, she realized her first love was oil painting. She never tires of looking for the light in the varied Four Corners region, and hopes her love of the landscape comes through her paintings. Sharon is a member of the American Academy of Women Artists, The Plein Air Painters of the 4 Corners, the Oil Painters of America, and has shown her work in numerous exhibits and juried shows in the southwest. The regular practice of Tai Chi forms can help to improve balance, coordination, focus and much more. Tai Chi is composed of various "postures" strung together into a continuous form. Each part of the form has meaning and value. In this class we begin with warm ups exercises to prepare the body for movement. We then practice individual parts of the form as well as doing exercises to improve our balance. Once learned, we practice the whole form together and then go deeper into the principles that make Tai Chi so unique and effective for improving and maintaining good health. Denise Lane is a certified Tai Chi instructor, who has been practicing Tai Chi since the 1990's.

This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. DAC is sponsoring a 4-week class with veteran improv actor and teacher, Mary Quinn, to help you fall in love with the art of improvisation! This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

In fact, Bonsai in Colorado has a long history dating back to the unfortunate period of Japanese Internment Camps in the state. In this talk, we will explore the use of native tree and shrub species as Bonsai subjects. Including some basic Bonsai facts and myths, horticultural and stylistic information and some tips for successful cultivation in the Durango vicinity.

The San Juan Archaeological Society invites the public to our July meeting. It will be in person and on Zoom. After a brief business meeting, Vincent MacMillan, Supervisory Archaeologist, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, will present "Sand, Stone, and Songs: Ancient lessons from a Living Landscape." He has been the lead archaeologist for Canyons of the Ancients National Monument since 2011.

DYT JR Company members (3rd-5th grade) will be able to hone their performance skills with this 4-week musical theatre camp. JR Company members will spend the days working on theatre skills such as voice and movement techniques, terminology, character development, and memorization techniques all using stage games and theatre exercises. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). In honor of Aztec Ruins turning 100 years old as a national monument this year, for the first time ever, the American Indian Cultural Arts Festival is TWO days long! This event will feature 30 incredibly talented Native American artists who will be selling their original creations from 10am-3pm in the picnic area. Late night escapades, fueled by whiskey, led to many tragic events resulting in the ghosts that wander the streets today.   Our 90-minute Hauntings & History Ghost Tour will not disappoint. We will meet in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train Depot (479 Main Ave) at dusk. Midway through the tour we will enter one of the best haunted locations that Downtown Durango has to offer! We are the only ghost tour that takes people INSIDE of a location! In honor of Aztec Ruins turning 100 years old as a national monument this year, for the first time ever, the American Indian Cultural Arts Festival is TWO days long! This event will feature 30 incredibly talented Native American artists who will be selling their original creations from 10am-3pm in the picnic area. The regular practice of Tai Chi forms can help to improve balance, coordination, focus and much more. Tai Chi is composed of various "postures" strung together into a continuous form. Each part of the form has meaning and value. In this class we begin with warm ups exercises to prepare the body for movement. We then practice individual parts of the form as well as doing exercises to improve our balance. Once learned, we practice the whole form together and then go deeper into the principles that make Tai Chi so unique and effective for improving and maintaining good health. Denise Lane is a certified Tai Chi instructor, who has been practicing Tai Chi since the 1990's.

At Wild Soul's Nature Adventure Day Camp, kids will be immersed in the natural world, growing their awareness of the plants, animals, and environment and experience what it is like to be a participant in nature, not simply a visitor. We will spend most of our days in like-age groups, moving on the land, playing, learning, and exploring. We will track animals, following their signs to the special places that most people never see. We will learn some reliable and nutritious edible & medicinal plants, as well as learn to identify the few plants that are very important to avoid. We will learn the basics of wilderness survival, expanding our awareness of hazards, as well as discussing how to stay safe if you have to spend a night or two out on the land. And, we will get to experience how humans live in community in nature - by trying it out together!

For those seeking the highlight reel of Durango’s early history, beginning in 1881, through the lens of the Historic Downtown Durango District (Main Avenue). This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

Downtown Durango is saturated with paranormal activity. You don’t need to walk far to get your fill of ghost stories. Main Avenue was once home to a plethora of saloons, dance halls, brothels, and gambling halls. It was the stomping ground for outlaws, gamblers, prostitutes, miners, and railroad workers. Late night escapades, fueled by whiskey, led to many tragic events resulting in the ghosts that wander the streets today.   Our 90-minute Hauntings & History Ghost Tour will not disappoint. We will meet in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train Depot (479 Main Ave) at dusk. Midway through the tour we will enter one of the best haunted locations that Downtown Durango has to offer! We are the only ghost tour that takes people INSIDE of a location! Wherever we tread on Main Avenue you will hear tales of apparitions who refuse to leave the places they inhabited in life. Special guest Philippe Quint joins Maestro Guillermo Figueroa and our Festival Orchestra for a wonderful evening of music featuring the works of Charlie Chaplin!   Did you know that Charlie Chaplin, one of the greatest silent movie actors and most iconic figures of the early film industry and was also a talented composer?   To celebrate Chaplin's 134th birthday (he was born on April 16, 1889), we present Philippe Quint's critically acclaimed multimedia program. Inspired by the violinist's successful 2019 album Chaplin's Smile (Warner Classics), the program has already appeared in the US, UK, Germany, Poland, Russia, Israel, Romania, Switzerland, and Norway.   Quint's unique arrangements of songs from Chaplin's most celebrated films (Modern Times, City Lights, Monsieur Verdoux, The Kid, Limelight, and A King in New York) are interspersed with rare footage of the actor, along with still images and video clips from his films. The regular practice of Tai Chi forms can help to improve balance, coordination, focus and much more. Tai Chi is composed of various "postures" strung together into a continuous form. Each part of the form has meaning and value. In this class we begin with warm ups exercises to prepare the body for movement. We then practice individual parts of the form as well as doing exercises to improve our balance. Once learned, we practice the whole form together and then go deeper into the principles that make Tai Chi so unique and effective for improving and maintaining good health. Denise Lane is a certified Tai Chi instructor, who has been practicing Tai Chi since the 1990's.

At Wild Soul's Nature Adventure Day Camp, kids will be immersed in the natural world, growing their awareness of the plants, animals, and environment and experience what it is like to be a participant in nature, not simply a visitor. We will spend most of our days in like-age groups, moving on the land, playing, learning, and exploring. We will track animals, following their signs to the special places that most people never see. We will learn some reliable and nutritious edible & medicinal plants, as well as learn to identify the few plants that are very important to avoid. We will learn the basics of wilderness survival, expanding our awareness of hazards, as well as discussing how to stay safe if you have to spend a night or two out on the land. And, we will get to experience how humans live in community in nature - by trying it out together!

Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Pre-order boxed lunches are also available.   The train will depart from the Durango Depot at 9:45 AM every day and return to Durango at 3 PM from May 26th - May 29th and June 7th - August 13th.

For those seeking the highlight reel of Durango’s early history, beginning in 1881, through the lens of the Historic Downtown Durango District (Main Avenue). This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

Join San Juan Mountains Association staff and volunteers for an interpretive naturalist hike! Learn about wildflowers, ecology, wildlife, geology, and cultural history in our beautiful San Juan Mountains.   The fun, fact-filled nature hike is moderate, We'll be moving at a "walking" pace for around 1-2 miles. This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Pre-order boxed lunches are also available.   The train will depart from the Durango Depot at 9:45 AM every day and return to Durango at 3 PM from May 26th - May 29th and June 7th - August 13th.

For those seeking the highlight reel of Durango’s early history, beginning in 1881, through the lens of the Historic Downtown Durango District (Main Avenue). This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms.

The Pine River Festival is returning!   Featuring The Lil Smokies, Sam Grisman Project, Midnight Backhand, Foggy Memory Boys, and students from Be Frank Foundation's Creative Music Conservatory!    This event features Craft beverages from regional brewers, cider, and wine makers, food and craft vendors, bounce houses and other kids activities - with all proceeds supporting the regional youth strings ensemble programs of the Be FRANK Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.    Tickets range from $30 for DD/under 21, to $45 for full admission. Downtown Durango is saturated with paranormal activity. You don’t need to walk far to get your fill of ghost stories. Main Avenue was once home to a plethora of saloons, dance halls, brothels, and gambling halls. It was the stomping ground for outlaws, gamblers, prostitutes, miners, and railroad workers. Late night escapades, fueled by whiskey, led to many tragic events resulting in the ghosts that wander the streets today.   Our 90-minute Hauntings & History Ghost Tour will not disappoint. We will meet in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train Depot (479 Main Ave) at dusk. Midway through the tour we will enter one of the best haunted locations that Downtown Durango has to offer! We are the only ghost tour that takes people INSIDE of a location! Wherever we tread on Main Avenue you will hear tales of apparitions who refuse to leave the places they inhabited in life. Because of the tight sidewalks downtown our tours do not exceed 15 people.    Be prepared for loud streets and crowds. Downtown Durango can be pretty raucous at night.

Join us!   Instructor: Laurie Hall of @bluebirddyegardens will teach you the ancient Japanese technique of Shibori as you create a hand-dyed cotton tea towel to take home. Laurie will show you methods of folding, tying, and "resisting" to make patterns on your tea towel. Your design will come to life in a dye bath made from Bluebird Dye Garden's locally grown flowers (which are also on sale @durangosustainablegoods). All materials are provided. Dyeing can be messy - please wear appropriate clothes.   Within a week after purchasing your spot in the workshop you'll receive an email from Bluebird Dye Gardens with address and directions to the workshop location, and any other info you might need.

MINIs in the Mountains is a national MINI Cooper Event. This year, Durango is our destination! The event will be held July 26-30, 2023. Thursday evening a MINI Cooper Parade with over 100 MINI coopers will drive through downtown Durango. The parade starts at 6:00pm with a car show in the Transit Center Parking lot following.    Please come down and see us!
