The Durango Farmers Market is a venue for local agriculturalists, ranchers and artisans to meet and share their harvest and talents with the Durango community. At our market you have the opportunity to meet face to face with the producers and learn more about their growing methods. Vendors post their farming practices at their booth and most follow organic growing methods.   Our market also offers hot ready to eat food from local vendors, value added foods such as jams, jellies and sauces and local artisans who make high-quality handcrafted items. All vendors must produce their goods within our five-county radius ensuring fresh produce and locally made goods. We also have live music performances each weekend as well as community information booths for non-profits and groups that promote our market values of local, sustainable and healthy living.

The Durango Adult Education Center is hosting its second annual Fun Run! This is a 5k and 10k run where competitors follow the River Trail in an out-and-back style route. All proceeds from this fundraiser benefit our nonprofit Education Center.    This event has a twist to it: competitors can opt to shave off some of their running time by answering multiple-choice quiz questions that reflect what our adult students are learning. Topics include high school level math, science, social studies, and more! Correct answers can change the outcome of the race!   The 5k race is open to both runners and walkers, while kids under 16 run for free! (ideal for ages 10 -15). The 10k is designated for runners only.    Both races start and end at Santa Rita Park, beginning at 8am with the whole event wrapping up around 11am. The Trail Party is one of our most exciting weekends of the season in the bike park. Race some of the best downhill trails in the country. For a truly unforgettable step back in time, enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear riding 3 1/2 hours each way on this diesel train while spending a nearly 2-hour layover in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and libations that Silverton offers. Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton. There will be one Silverton Diesel Train departing daily at 8:15 AM from May 20th - August 13th.

Bokkendo (wooden sword) and jodo (short staff) date back to medieval Japan's samurai society. At Wild Soul's Nature Adventure Day Camp, kids will be immersed in the natural world, growing their awareness of the plants, animals, and environment and experience what it is like to be a participant in nature, not simply a visitor. We will spend most of our days in like-age groups, moving on the land, playing, learning, and exploring. We will track animals, following their signs to the special places that most people never see. We will learn some reliable and nutritious edible & medicinal plants, as well as learn to identify the few plants that are very important to avoid. We will learn the basics of wilderness survival, expanding our awareness of hazards, as well as discussing how to stay safe if you have to spend a night or two out on the land. And, we will get to experience how humans live in community in nature - by trying it out together!

Durango Botanic Gardens Announces Plans For Their Annual Gardens On Tour!   Spring is now here, and Summer is fast approaching. It's time to think about what you want to do in your garden this year. One way to tackle what is, for some, a daunting task is to see what others have created. Thus, Durango Botanic Gardens' annual Gardens on Tour! This year's line-up features seven private gardens plus a welcome visit to review the Durango Botanic Gardens and Durango Hot Springs plantings. The event occurs on Saturday, June 24, from 9 am -4 pm. Experience the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's iconic canyon views along the Highline on our shortest excursion offered. This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Pre-order boxed lunches are also available.   The train will depart from the Durango Depot at 9:45 AM every day and return to Durango at 3 PM from May 26th - May 29th and June 7th - August 13th.

Visit us at The Powerhouse to check out our summertime traveling exhibit, "Pterosaurs: Ancient Rulers of the Skies", on display May 27th-September 17th.    This exhibit explores the majesty and wonder of a group of flying reptiles that lived between the Late Triassic through the Late Cretaceous Periods (228 to 66 million years ago) of the Mesozoic Era. Ideal for learners of all ages; families and individuals can learn about these fascinating and visually striking creatures in a variety of ways.    This exhibit features fossil replicas mixed with eight digital interactive stations showcasing the evolution, diversity, and lifestyle of this intriguing group of species.    The Powerhouse is open to the public 7 days a week 9:30am-3:30pm.

Scrapin The Rockies Car show is back!   After a Long Hiatus we are bringing back what Matt Stone started in 2011.   Please see below for details:  Roll-in: 6.23.23 4 P.M. - 8 P.M .  The show will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 6 p.m on Sat 6.24.23.  Trophies will be held Sunday at Noon 6.25.23  Cost/Registration: $35 to pre-reg or $45 at the show.    We do ask the following:  NO STOCK VEHICLES "Adjustable Suspension" preferred but not mandatory  Hot rod style  Custom Motorcycles  Lowriders with Hydraulics or Air ride  Mini Trucks  Fullsize Bagged  Compacts, Luxury Cars, Cali Stance, Etc...

For those seeking the highlight reel of Durango’s early history, beginning in 1881, through the lens of the Historic Downtown Durango District (Main Avenue). This is a must-do for locals to learn where actual notorious Wild West events happened (as opposed to the lore) to share with your guests. Both tourists and locals alike will walk away with a very different view of Durango and a deeper appreciation.   Buffalo soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, Chinese restaurateurs, railroad works and miners, freed slaves, and "soiled doves" were amongst the melting pot that was Durango. Sometimes things went awry and all hell broke loose. As a result, you will visit the hanging sites and location of the epic gunfight between the Sheriff and the Marshall amongst others.    This tour meets at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot (479 Main Avenue; gather at the horse sculptures out front). Please note this is a one-way walk up Main Avenue. We will end at Maria's Bookstore (960 Main Avenue). On this approximately 1 hour and 15 minute tour we will not enter establishments. This makes it an option for those with disabilities (be prepared for uneven Durango sidewalks however) and well behaved dogs (please give advance notice). After the tour you will be right on time for lunch at any of our wonderful downtown restaurants; now with a newfound appreciation of Durango.    Please do not attend a tour if you are experiencing Covid symptoms. 

Please join the La Plata Quilt Guild for their biannual quilt show! The show will be presented in the 10,000-square-foot Main Exhibit Hall at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, with plenty of convenient parking. In the past, we have had more than a hundred quilts on display, along with opportunities for attendees to gain hands-on experience during demonstrations and activities.   We look forward to hearing from you and hope you can join us to have fun celebrating quilts, textile arts, fine handicrafts, and the people who create these masterpieces great and small!

Old West Cowboy Music Show and Chuckwagon Supper. Durango's favorite family entertainment since 1969. Bar D Wranglers perform in concert after supper with music and songs of old west cowboys, comedy, and lively instrumentals. The show is fun for the whole family.    Activities, shops, and ticketing open at 4:30. Supper is at 6:30. Open Memorial Day Weekend through September - Rain or Shine !    Reservations are required.

The West Slope Westies present an all-dance social!   The event will include Rhumba, Two-Step, Swing, Cha-cha, Tango, and Fox Trot dances.

In need of something to take the kids too? The Durango Arts Center Theatre has just the thing for you! Opening on June 24th, The youth Double Feature of the shows Mr. Groundhog Wants the Day Off and How To Survive Being in a Shakespeare Play. These two shows are portrayed by the June Theatre Summer Camps and are very kid friendly!   Did we mention that this will be the World Premier of Mr. Groundhog which was written by a local author? Who know, you might even get to meet her!   Come watch these fun shows in one performance!

Downtown Durango is saturated with paranormal activity. You don’t need to walk far to get your fill of ghost stories. Main Avenue was once home to a plethora of saloons, dance halls, brothels, and gambling halls. It was the stomping ground for outlaws, gamblers, prostitutes, miners, and railroad workers. Late night escapades, fueled by whiskey, led to many tragic events resulting in the ghosts that wander the streets today.   Our 90-minute Hauntings & History Ghost Tour will not disappoint. We will meet in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train Depot (479 Main Ave) at dusk. Midway through the tour we will enter one of the best haunted locations that Downtown Durango has to offer! We are the only ghost tour that takes people INSIDE of a location! Wherever we tread on Main Avenue you will hear tales of apparitions who refuse to leave the places they inhabited in life. Because of the tight sidewalks downtown our tours do not exceed 15 people.    Be prepared for loud streets and crowds. Downtown Durango can be pretty raucous at night.
