Silverton Summer Train - Diesel Locomotive
8:00am / Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
For a truly unforgettable step back in time, enjoy a leisurely trip to yesteryear riding 3 1/2 hours each way on this diesel train while spending a nearly 2-hour layover in the historic mining town of Silverton to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and libations that Silverton offers. Departing from the Durango Depot, this trip takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton. There will be one Silverton Diesel Train departing daily at 8:15 AM from May 20th - August 13th.

The regular practice of Tai Chi forms can help to improve balance, coordination, focus and much more. Tai Chi is composed of various "postures" strung together into a continuous form. Each part of the form has meaning and value. In this class we begin with warm ups exercises to prepare the body for movement. We then practice individual parts of the form as well as doing exercises to improve our balance. Once learned, we practice the whole form together and then go deeper into the principles that make Tai Chi so unique and effective for improving and maintaining good health. Denise Lane is a certified Tai Chi instructor, who has been practicing Tai Chi since the 1990's.

The Four Corners Gem and Mineral Club Club offers an exciting lineup of Gem Show Classes July 6 to 9. This is a great opportunity to learn a wide range of lapidary and metalsmith skills. Classes are small, and with both a skilled instructor and an assistant, you can expect plenty of personal attention. Some classes sell out quickly so register early at www.durangorocks.org/gemshowclasses.    These classes as well as the Club's weekend workshops are eligible for scholarship assistance from the City of Durango. If you want to learn stone polishing or metalsmith skills, this is do-not-miss opportunity.
Register! Nature Adventure Summer Camp (Ages 7 - 12) July 17 - 20

At Wild Soul's Nature Adventure Day Camp, kids will be immersed in the natural world, growing their awareness of the plants, animals, and environment and experience what it is like to be a participant in nature, not simply a visitor. We will spend most of our days in like-age groups, moving on the land, playing, learning, and exploring. We will track animals, following their signs to the special places that most people never see. We will learn some reliable and nutritious edible & medicinal plants, as well as learn to identify the few plants that are very important to avoid. We will learn the basics of wilderness survival, expanding our awareness of hazards, as well as discussing how to stay safe if you have to spend a night or two out on the land. And, we will get to experience how humans live in community in nature - by trying it out together!

There will be up to three steam departures depending on the date. The Silverton Steam Train departs daily at 9:00AM 5/6/23-10/28/23, 8:15AM 8/14/23-10/14/23, and 9:45AM 9/1/23-10/14/23
Cascade Canyon Express

Experience the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's iconic canyon views along the Highline on our shortest excursion offered. This steam train excursion is perfect for families with young children, late risers, or anyone looking to experience the historic D&SNGRR with only five hours to spare.    The Cascade Canyon Express departs from Durango and travels deep into the San Juan National Forest about halfway to Silverton, before returning to Durango for a 5-hour highlight reel of spectacular Rocky Mountain and Animas River Canyon scenery.   The Cascade Canyon Express has a concession car with a variety of snacks and drinks available for purchase. Pre-order boxed lunches are also available.   The train will depart from the Durango Depot at 9:45 AM every day and return to Durango at 3 PM from May 26th - May 29th and June 7th - August 13th.
Costume Mask Making Middle/High School

Work with DAC's own Mr. B, "The Master Costume and Mask Masker" and create outrageous Masks of your choice using a variety of three dimensional forms, mediums, materials and paints. Handlettering Class

Make beautiful letters with a professional lettering artist.   Designed for all experience levels, in these adult classes, you will learn how to break down each letterform into strokes to give you the command over your tools to make confident letters.    Note that we study a different lettering style each day. Choose by available day or style:   Monday: Letter Like a Graphic Novelist  Tuesday: Variations in Italic  Wednesday: Lettering with Pencils  Thursday: Letter Like a Sign Painter  Friday: Brushlettering Fun!  Saturday: Chalkboard Basics   Classes are held in The ArtRoom and are limited to 6 people. You may also request private 1:1 and group sessions.   Materials are provided that you get to take home. Accompanying online courses allow the learning to continue.
DYT: Teen Improv Studio with Mary Quinn

13 - 18 years old   The ever-popular improv classes are now available for teens!! DAC is sponsoring a 4-week class with veteran improv actor and teacher, Mary Quinn, to help you fall in love with the art of improvisation! This class is built to introduce teens to the fundamentals of improv with a series of exercises that will unlock your creativity and remind you how fun it is to play well with others. Multimodal Trivia Night

During Clean Commute Week, the city of Durango is hosting a Multimodal Trivia Night at the Rochester Hotel's Secret Garden.
