Durango Farmers Market

The Durango Farmers Market is a venue for local agriculturalists, ranchers and artisans to meet and share their harvest and talents with the Durango community. At our market you have the opportunity to meet face to face with the producers and learn more about their growing methods. Vendors post their farming practices at their booth and most follow organic growing methods.   Our market also offers hot ready to eat food from local vendors, value added foods such as jams, jellies and sauces and local artisans who make high-quality handcrafted items. All vendors must produce their goods within our five-county radius ensuring fresh produce and locally made goods. We also have live music performances each weekend as well as community information booths for non-profits and groups that promote our market values of local, sustainable and healthy living.
La Plata County Fair

For 74 years, friends, families, Colorado natives, and visitors have all converged upon Durango for a celebration of hard work and hobby. People of all ages showcase their animals, food, garden products, and personal creations to compete for the coveted blue ribbon. This festival, happening Wednesday - Sunday, August 10th - 14th, 2022, is one of Colorado's best ways to enjoy good, old-fashioned mountain fun. Like all state fairs, visitors will experience livestock competitions, homemade food competitions, 4-H project displays, and garden variety events.

Hands-on Digital Photography Workshop

This class is perfect for the beginning digital photographer. During the course of the workshop you will learn how to set all the basic controls on your camera, as well as understanding the important menu items and shooting modes available. We'll focus on strategies for improving your photography, including how to achieve perfect color, how to capture the decisive moment, and how to improve the quality of your photographs. Additional dates are available.    Class meets either at Future Light Digital studio at Elk Park, Durango, or the Durango Community Recreation Center depending on class size.
4-H Community BBQ

Who needs a DELICIOUS event to go to with a wonderful cause??   Come see us at the La Plata County Fair 4-H Community Barbecue Cook-Off on Saturday, August 13th from Noon until 4PM, or the food is gone.   Purchase your tickets in advance at our Extension Office located at 2500 Main Avenue, Durango, CO 81301. Only $8.00 for an adult and $5 for 65+ or 10 and under.    Tickets are also available at the gate: $10 for an adult and $5 for 65+ and 10 and under.    ALL proceeds go to La Plata County 4-H Program!

Bulbs are perhaps the most underutilized plant in all of our gardens… but they don't have to be. The Durango Botanic Garden's annual bulb sale is coming soon. Buy bulbs in the summer? Yes, it's the perfect time to order your bulbs and pick them up in the fall. October is the ideal time to plant bulbs in SW Colorado. Bulbs are easy to grow and return year after year.   The Durango Botanic Gardens Annual Bulb Sale will once again be conducted online. Almost 50 types of bulbs will be available to order. The Bulb Sale preview opens on July 22 on the Botanic Gardens' website: www.durangobotanicgardens.org. You will find pictures and descriptions of all the available bulbs to help you plan your garden. The online store will be open August 5 - 16.    Paid orders will be available for pickup mid-October at a variety of locations and times that will be posted on the website.    If you have questions, do not hesitate to call the DBG office at 970-880-4841. Beginner Country Swing

A four-week introductory course on the basics of Country Swing dancing sponsored by the Fort Lewis Social Dance Club. Our instructors have years of experience teaching people of all skill levels. So, we guarantee you will have a great time no matter how many left feet you think you have.   Classes meet every Monday in August from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Fort Lewis College theater building.    All skill levels are welcome to bring friends or come solo. Payment taken at the door.   Level Descriptions:   Level 1 is for brand-new Salsa dancers. You will learn fundamentals - Salsa musicality, proper frame and connection, the basic step, open and closed partner dance positions, basic left turns, and more. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style).   Level 2 is for beginner Salsa dancers with a bit of experience or ones moving up from L1. You will learn more fundamentals plus a little extra! We will continue with musicality exercises, timing, smoothing out the basic step and moves, and will move into cross-body leads, progressive left turns, basic right turns, and simple combos. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style).   Level 3 is for intermediate Salsa dancers with a solid grasp of musicality, footwork, cross-body leads, and combination moves. We will work on more complex combos, progressive right turns, slants, stops, copas, and more. We teach Salsa on 2 (NYC style) - but may occasionally throw in some Salsa on 1 (LA style).

Community Concerts Series - The Badly Bent

The Community Foundation Supporting Southwest Colorado is proud to present the 2022 Community Concerts! Come on out this summer to Durango's Rochester Hotel for some fantastic music and fun times, and support local non-profit environmental organizations! On August 17, The Badly Bent bluegrass band will play to benefit the Mountain Studies Institute, a Silverton-based independent not-for-profit mountain research and education center working to develop science that people can use to address environmental issues facing the San Juan Mountains. Tickets for each event are $10 at the door on the day of the event, or you can purchase a discounted online punch pass for $50. The punch pass is valid for six punches—you may use one punch each week, or all six punches in one week—or any combination in between!
