Looking Glass Art Show

Exhibit run: December 5, 2019—January 30, 2020   The public is invited to the opening reception for the Looking Glass Collective’s winter art show at the Smiley Café Gallery, Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM. Meet the artists and see their work in oil, pastel and watercolor. All paintings are for sale with 30% of sales going to Durango’s Local First’s efforts to establish a Creative District in Durango. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through January 30, 2020. The Looking Glass Collective consists of twenty artists who meet monthly to critique one another’s work. The collective also creates opportunities for exhibits such as the yearly show at Smiley, exhibits for non-profits like San Juan Citizens Alliance and shows at local businesses. The artists have all been juried into multiple national shows; many have won awards. Looking Glass Collective artists participating in this year’s show are: Linda Bonds, Emma French, Sue Giddings, Sandra Heller, Yvonne Holland, Rosemary Juskevich, Rebecca Koeppen, Betsy Krill, Annette LeMaire, Juanita Nelson, Cheryl Roberts, Pat Smiley, Ann Stringfellow, Dinah Swan and Lorraine Trenholm.

Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Competition
9:00am / Escalante Middle School Gym
Durango Elks Lodge #507 will be hosting the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Competition at Escalante Middle School gym in Durango for boys & girls ages 8-13. Students from Durango, Ignacio, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs and Silverton are invited to participate. Check in at 9am and the event starts at 10am.   The Elks National Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for youth ages 8 to 13. Beginning at the local level, winning contestants advance through District, State, Regional and National competitions. The program is free to all contestants. The Elks help sponsor contestants and their families at every level of competition. One boy and one girl from each division will win a national title at the National Finals in Chicago and have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial basketball Hall of Fame. Kids / Teen Follies Auditions

Auditions for Kids/Teen Follies are coming!   Are you a kid or teen in Durango? Do you have a talent to share and want to be a part of one of the most entertaining events of Snowdown? Then come on down to the Durango Arts Center on Jan 10th or 11th and show us what you’ve got!    Please limit your act to 4 minutes and under. Judges will be there at both audition dates to select the “Best Of Kids/Teen Follies” lineup for the Best Of show on Saturday, Feb 1st.   Performances:  WEDNESDAY, JAN 29 @ 4:30 pm Kids / 7:30 pm Teen   THURSDAY, JAN 30 @ 4:30 pm Kids / 7:30 pm Teen   And THE BEST OF SHOW on SATURDAY, Feb 1 @ 1:00 pm     *** Mandatory dress rehearsal is on Saturday, Jan, 25th @ 9 am for the Kids Follies and 12:30 pm for the Teens.***     **If you are using music, please make sure you have it on a compatible device to plug into a standard headphone jack or CD.     **We will also be collecting the entry fee of $35 per act at the time of your audition.
