Looking Glass Art Show

Exhibit run: December 5, 2019—January 30, 2020   The public is invited to the opening reception for the Looking Glass Collective´s winter art show at the Smiley Café Gallery, Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM. Meet the artists and see their work in oil, pastel and watercolor. All paintings are for sale with 30% of sales going to Durango’s Local First’s efforts to establish a Creative District in Durango. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through January 30, 2020. The Looking Glass Collective consists of twenty artists who meet monthly to critique one another’s work. The collective also creates opportunities for exhibits such as the yearly show at Smiley, exhibits for non-profits like San Juan Citizens Alliance and shows at local businesses. The artists have all been juried into multiple national shows; many have won awards. Looking Glass Collective artists participating in this year’s show are: Linda Bonds, Emma French, Sue Giddings, Sandra Heller, Yvonne Holland, Rosemary Juskevich, Rebecca Koeppen, Betsy Krill, Annette LeMaire, Juanita Nelson, Cheryl Roberts, Pat Smiley, Ann Stringfellow, Dinah Swan and Lorraine Trenholm.
Cardio/Strength Interval Class
9:00am / Edgemont Highlands Community Lodge
Get a total body workout that focuses on tightening and toning with intervals of cardio and strength training. Exercises will use body weight and resistance bands (provided). Please bring a yoga mat for floor exercises. $10/class. Punch cards available
Powder Hounds Art Auction
12:00pm / Durango Art Center
Powder Hounds Art Auction is a month long on-going silent auction of snowboard art by local artists. The 20 art boards will be displayed at various locations in and around Durango for the public to view and are available to bid on online at www.powderhoundsart.com.    Boards begin at a minimum bid of $100 and 100% of the proceeds will benefit LPCHS. We will be introducing "Buy it Now" pricing for each board this year.    A curated show will take place at Durango Art Center on Friday, January 10th - Sunday, January 12th!
Happy Hour Yoga

Beat your case of the Mondays with a yoga session, hosted by our favorite yogi, and complementary pint. $10 = 1 hour yoga and 1 pint of beer. Yoga first. Please bring your mat.
Aikido (for Adults, Beginners, and Beyond)

Every Monday and Wednesday night, Durango Shin-Budo Kai offers a 2-hour Aikido class open to advanced, intermediate, and beginning practitioners. Discover a fun, challenging, and counter-intuitive martial art that teaches how to diffuse conflict or violence without adding conflict or violence. People across the age- and gender-spectrums are able and welcome to practice this transformative art. Wear a gi or comfortable, loose workout clothing.
Beginning East Coast Swing Class
6:30pm / Smiley Building - Interplay Studio Room 15
Learn the basic steps, essentials of how to lead and follow, fundamental turns and some basic combinations you can use on the dance floor. Each week of this 6 week series builds on the lesson from the week before so be sure to clear your schedule for Monday evenings for the entire series. We strongly recommend you plan to miss no more than one session. This class is a prerequisite for the Swing 2 series.
Social Dance / Swing Practice Dance Session
7:30pm / Smiley Building - Interplay Studio Room 15
The studio will be open for dance practice immediately following the 6:30 pm swing class for a $5 donation. We will play music based on consensus of the participants. Instructors will be available for pointers or for getting through stuck spots on an individual basis.
