Meet the artists and see their work in oil, pastel and watercolor. All paintings are for sale with 30% of sales going to Durango’s Local First’s efforts to establish a Creative District in Durango. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through January 30, 2020.   The Looking Glass Collective consists of twenty artists who meet monthly to critique one another’s work. The collective also creates opportunities for exhibits such as the yearly show at Smiley, exhibits for non-profits like San Juan Citizens Alliance and shows at local businesses. The artists have all been juried into multiple national shows; many have won awards.   Looking Glass Collective artists participating in this year’s show are: Linda Bonds, Emma French, Sue Giddings, Sandra Heller, Yvonne Holland, Rosemary Juskevich, Rebecca Koeppen, Betsy Krill, Annette LeMaire, Juanita Nelson, Cheryl Roberts, Pat Smiley, Ann Stringfellow, Dinah Swan and Lorraine Trenholm.

Lawrence Broadway, an experienced shop steward will demonstrate the safe use of all of the shop equipment. New members are strongly encouraged to attend, and any member who is learning a new interest area or just wants a refresher training, should also take advantage of this free demonstration. This is also a great place for anyone who wants to become a shop steward to become more familiar with the equipment.

This jewelry event features the gallery's more than two dozen jewelry designers and artists. With earrings, pendants, rings, bracelets and more!

Join us during Durango's annual community Holiday Party on December 6th as we welcome fine art equine photographer Tony Stromberg to the gallery with a one-man show. Tony will be in attendance from 5-7pm to answer questions about his work and inspiration, as well as sign copies of his book, “Horse Medicine.” The show continues daily through the holiday season, closing on December 31.

A signature community event, Durango Arts Center’s Winter Solstice Invitational Artisans’ Market is the perfect destination for holiday shopping. Experience Barbara Conrad Gallery transformed into a dynamic outlet featuring over 25 invited regional artists selected for their high-quality offerings of original and unique fine arts and crafts. Find the perfect one-of-a-kind holiday gift in this year’s market filled with local ceramics, jewelry, metal, textiles, glass, wood, note cards, ornaments, calendars, photography, painting, and drawing.

Get your Christmas gifts wrapped for FREE this season in Downtown Durango. Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1; Saturday December 14 and Sunday December 15; and Saturday December 21 and Sunday December 22, from noon to 3 pm at the Strater Hotel lobby.   Gift wrapping is in an old fashioned style, with brown paper and string, and then each gift is stamped with the Christmas Town stamp.    Brought to you by the BID and the Strater Hotel.

Community Compassion Outreach invites the public to attend a Christmas celebration. This is a special feast with Durango’s citizens who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Attendees are invited to bring a favorite dish to share. It is an outdoor event, and an opportunity to visit with volunteers and make new friends. Schneider Park is located north of the 9th Street Bridge on Roosa Avenue.    Volunteer drivers are also needed to help transport guests from the Purple Cliffs encampment to the lunch.    To RSVP or sign-up, contact Donna Mae at (970) 236-2313.

The MakerLab at the Powerhouse in Durango is hosting a free winter ornament workshop! This family-friendly event is open to all ages and will utilize laser cutters, the woodshop, and more. All materials will be provided to create all shapes and designs with the support of the MakerLab members. No experience is necessary, and participants will take home their creations.

Then family-friendly fun comes to the full Concert Hall with Mysto’s Really Big Magic Show. Mysto the Magi (aka Mitch Harwood) takes audiences on a vaudeville journey with play-lets, mystery, secret messages and group participation, with the entire intent of “having fun.”
