BART Caring for our Community through Creativity
10:00am / Durango Arts Center
During this program we will be exploring our community in Durango and how we can give back as creatives. On December 16th they will be focusing on the art of cooking as we learn about food handling safety, how to cook meals and distribute them to the community as a fun creative pop up. On January 20th they will be learning a plethora of art skills from a variety of different guest instructors. In February we will take some of those skills in January to paint a Mural to help beautify our community. For our last two sessions in March and April we will focus on finding the value in another man's trash as we travel down the river trail finding materials to turn into found object sculptures. During these trips we will explore the local art and learn how it helps make a difference in our society.   During each session the students will also have the option of taking a creative break to learn circus skills so they can exercise both their body and minds.   This is a great program to help young artists find their confidence, learn valuable life skills all the while having fun and making new friends for years to come.   For questions, please email Mr. B, at ben@durangoarts.org. Scholarships are available. BART offers young people, ages 11 to 17, regardless of expression or identity, the opportunity to experience art, leadership and art-based opportunities.

Come up and vibe out with us to some funky-folk, laid-back, subtle soul and R&B jams!   Dana Ariel & the Comin Up Roses are an Americana/Soul collective based out of Southwest, Colorado. Beginning in 2021, the band sprung into action playing locally around the Durango area. Led by lead singer and guitarist Dana Ariel, the band has moved through many phases of growth and change. Today they bring an eclectic sound with Dana's atmospheric vocals, Alex Forsthoff on lead guitar, Jerad Bussell on the 'slap happy' bass, and Cameron Wright rocking the drums. Dana's songwriting appeals to a wide variety of audiences of all age groups and musical tastes. She has shared the stage and worked alongside bands such as Hello DollFace, Elder Grown, and Alpen Rising. The welcoming and lively atmosphere the band delivers to each show sets a similar tone to bands such as Lake Street Dive, whereas their paradisiac sound reminds you of the esteemed Sara Watkins. The Comin Up Roses are sure to bring people of all backgrounds together and provide a unified environment through Dana Ariel's songwriting.   An aggregation of acoustic musicians from the hills of Southwest Colorado, People We Know has coalesced into a solid group of enthusiastic mountain-grass pickers. Featuring members of former Durango groups the Outskirts and Fellowship of the Strings, People We Know brings a new take on high altitude string music. Born amidst late night festival levity, they explore the limits of bluegrass while testing their early morning imaginations. With Alex Forsthoff on guitar, Jeff Berman on big fiddle, Aaron Cooklin on mandolin, and Mark Walser on small fiddle, People We Know will take you on a musical ride to all ends of the mountain-grass spectrum. Their highly anticipated shows, located from one San Juan mountain valley to the next, range from up-tempo foot stomping bluegrass to deliberate ballads.

Road to Tico Time Bluegrass Ft. Liver Down the River x Kind Hearted Strangers
8:00pm / Animas City Theatre
$23 / $25 / 21+  Liver Down the River  From the high mountain river-valley of Durango, Colorado comes a five piece band of musicians called Liver Down The River. The group has their roots in countless river floats, campfires, late night picking, and Colorado living. Since LDTR's creation in 2012, their unique sound and high energy performances have lead them to share the stage with the likes of The Infamous Stringdusters, Railroad Earth, Lil' Smokies, The New Mastersounds, John Stickley Trio, and Poor Man's Whiskey, to name a few.  https://liverdowntheriver.com   Kind Hearted Strangers  Hailing from all corners of the country, Kind Hearted Strangers began in the foothills of Colorado - where an impromptu open mic performance by songwriter Marc Townes quickly evolved into something much bigger. With genre bending improvisations from lead guitarist Kevin Hinder and bassist/vocalist Ace Engfer, KHS has become a dynamic full band capable of bridging the gap between all out rock n' roll and their harmony-driven acoustic roots. The addition of drummer Eggy Gorman has seen the band grow into a road-driven force, hungry for live music, delivering high-energy rock shows across the country. https://www.kindheartedstrangers.com   Tico Time Bluegrass Festival  You are cordially invited to the 4th annual Tico Time Bluegrass Music Festival, May 17-19, 2024! The Tico Time Bluegrass Festival, nestled in the heart of the stunning Animas River Valley just outside of Durango, Colorado, is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse yourself in the sweet sounds of live bluegrass music. Whether you're jamming with your fellow festival-goers at a campsite, taking a dip in the river, or dancing up a storm on the beach, this festival promises to be an adventure filled with unforgettable moments, lifelong friendships, and cherished memories.
