Cascade Canyon Winter Train
9:00am / Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Departing from the Durango Depot, this excursion takes you up into the Rocky Mountains with incredible views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas River while relaxing in heated coaches. Cascade Canyon is a destination like no other and is the perfect setting for a fire-side lunch, photo opportunities or a walk along the Animas River during your 60-minute layover. Spanning 26 miles each way, this 5.25 hour round trip experience is offered on select dates from November 19 through May 5. We recommend reserving your trip in advance online so that you have the best chance of securing your preferred seating.
Japanse Bokkendo & Jodo

Bokkendo (wooden sword) and jodo (short staff) date back to medieval Japan's samurai society. Training in these ancient arts offers people in the modern world a taste of bushido, or the warrior's path to a robust spirit and unbeatable mindset. Develop greater strength, balance, coordination, and poise. Beginners are as welcome as experienced practitioners. For 20 years, DSBK has provided fun-filled training experiences open to everyone.
4Corners Riversports Red Hot Relay
9:30am / Durango Nordic Center
Grab a costume and a couple of teammates to come out and join the fun at the Durango Nordic Center for the 4Corners Riversports Red Hot Relay!   Teams of three racers will compete for fame and glory! Each racer will complete one 3k lap. The final times will be logged when the third racer crosses the finish line. Haven't raced before? No problem! This is a great race to try out.    The cost per team for registration is $35. All proceeds benefit our youth and team programs. Register in advance on our website. Online registration closes at 7 PM on December 30. Day-of registration at the event will be available for $40.
Snowdown Shakespeare Escape Room

To slightly misquote the bard, "We bid you to escape and strive with things impossible." Test your puzzle-solving skills as you work to beat the clock in our Shakespeare themed Escape Room at the library! This event is free and open to teens and adults. Snowdown Flying Paper (Airplanes)

Let fly the wings of paper and page! Hosted by Durango Office Depot. A simple challenge? Make, decorate with markers, and fly your own plane paper airplane the farthest. See how far you can throw your plane within our course boundaries. All materials will be supplied by OFFICE DEPOT.    (Note: No outside materials such as premade or folded paper planes, tape, paper clips, weights, glue, attachments, plane launchers, etc are NOT permitted.) Each contestant will make/decorate/ throw their own plane.    There will be two age groups (Group-A: grades 1-6 & Group-B: grades 7-12) and both age groups will compete at the same time. 1st place prizes per group will be awarded in each age group plus prizes for contestants.    An Adult must accompany all contestants and a parent signed permission form is required for all participants. Grades 1-12.   Entry Cost: FREE  Prizes!
Art and Craft Classes for Adults and Teens

No time to take a series of classes? No problem! Now you can take a fun, single class and knock out a beautiful project on a Saturday afternoon! Love flowers? Then you will adore these Framed Flowers! We will create a bouquet of pretty shimmer paper flowers and arrange them in a 12×12 frame. All supplies included in price.

Watercolor Mountainscape Workshop with Lauren Czaplicki

In this beginner friendly watercolor class, you will combine various techniques with mindfulness. We'll begin with a short meditation practice to check in with your mental, physical, and emotional states. You'll choose colors and processes that reflect those: your internal landscape. We'll explore wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, color mixing, and color lifting techniques in this mindful watercolor class. You will receive a 5x7 practice sheet of watercolor paper to play with the various techniques and then you will create your very own internal landscape on a frameable 8x10 piece of watercolor paper!
